Revenge: A Love Story

28 August 2016 2:10 AM, PDT | AsianMoviePulse | See recent AsianMoviePulse news »

A kind of peculiar entry in the grotesque thriller category, as it makes an effort to “justify” a man that kills pregnant women taking away their unborn babies.

The film starts with this particular man, Kit, performing the aforementioned action on cop’s wives and subsequently, killing their husbands. Eventually he is caught while trying to get away from a crime scene and as he is interrogated in the police station, the film makes a flashback to the past to explain his life story. Months earlier, Kit was selling steamed dumplings in front of a small neighborhood grocery store. Eventually he meets a young woman named Wing, which is actually a mentally challenged high school girl. YouTube’s Dilemma: Why Online Stars Struggle to Make Good Movies

12 July 2016 2:18 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

A movie starring two YouTubers will make its money back in iTunes sales, regardless of its quality. Speaking from the sixth VidCon, the annual convention for digital content creators and their fans, creator Jimmy Wong is uncertain about his and others’ crossover prospects.

“It’s really hard to transition YouTube stars into traditional acting roles,” says Wong, who rose to YouTube fame with his viral hit “Ching Chong! Asians in the Library Song” — a timely response to an ugly, racist video rant.

Screaming tweens. Boy bands singing Drake. People talking to video cameras. VidCon, the annual convention for all things YouTube, vlogging, and digital media, is certainly a sight to behold. The term “content creator” is rarely thrown around quite so often as it was in the hallways of the Anaheim Convention Center last weekend. If one thing is certain, digital culture is a lot more advanced than it was a few years ago. What can we surmise from VidCon about the future of the industry that has better numbers than the views on “David After Dentist?” This is real life for the digital age.

The Freshmen Online Stars Are All Grown Up

Grace Helbig, Jenna Marbles, and Hannah Hart each began vlogging in 2008, 2010, and 2011, respectively. In Internet years, they’re ancient. Now, they’re credited with shaping the style and creating a language for a form of digital media that is now over ten years old. »

Tastemade, PepsiCo Pit Creators Against One Another In A “Grub Match”

14 January 2016 1:44 PM, PST | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

The Super Bowl is right around the corner, and two companies are using the biggest snack day of the year as an excuse to pit chefs and videomakers against one another. Multi-channel network Tastemade has teamed up with PepsiCo to host Game Day Grub Match, a food competition that asked its participants to devise recipes that use the latter company’s products.

For the Grub Match, Tastemade enlisted three of its creators--Jimmy Wong, Kate Quinn, and Joel Gamoran--and matched each of them up with a pair of students at the Culinary Institute of America. The culinary trios were then asked to face off against each other in a cooking competition, and as with Iron Chef or Chopped, a selection of secret ingredients were involved: The teams had to use PepsiCo’s snack foods and soft drinks as the bases of their respective dishes.

The Grub Match was recorded across three videos, »
