From the jury statement: "This year's award goes to the Israeli film "God's Neighbors" by Meni Yaesh. Violence entangled with religious fanaticism is a topic dominating the daily news. But this film is more than a copy of reality; it offers a universal human access into a complex issue, which usually stays inaccessible for the outsiders. In an impressive multi-layered way the film tells about existential human needs like love, feeling secure and inner peace. If these values are within reach, humans are offered a foothold and an alternative to violence. Because of this, the film gives hope. We especially appreciated the young actors, the camera work and the music, which makes the access to the world of the protagonists easier."

Jury statement: "God's Neighbors is a memorable exploration of the relation between religion and justice, violence and love. It gives insight to contemporary religious practices of orthodox Jews. It illustrates the joy of faith in juxtaposition with violence that is done in the name of faith. God's Neighbors approaches sensitive topics with nuance and respect. The film contributes to increased understanding of religion in daily life as well as religion in conflict. It, furthermore, reminds us of the contribution of the individual and of the co-operation of men and women. It takes a firm stand against violence in the name of religion and shows a way out of conflict."
