Horror satire takes swipe at image-conscious music TV industry.
Dear White People writer-director Justin Simien has partnered with Sight Unseen, the new production company launched by Julia Lebedev, Eddie Vaisman, and Oren Moverman, on the feature Bad Hair.
The project is a horror satire set against the rise of the New Jack Swing fusion genre in the late 1980s as an ambitious young woman gets a weave in order to survive the image-conscious world of music television. Matters take a dark turn when she realises the new hair may possess a mind of its own.
Sight Unseen vice-president of development Angel Lopez will oversee the film for the company. Lebedev and Lopez produced Simien’s first feature Dear White People, while Lebedev served as executive producer on the Netflix series of the same name that Simien created.

We all remember when then-couple Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears showed up to the American Music Awards in 2001 wearing head-to-toe denim, and it sounds like Justin hasn't stopped thinking about it, either. While promoting Trolls in Australia this week, Justin stopped by the talk show The Project and was asked, "What have you learned about the industry that you didn't know when you were in *Nsync that you know now?" After a beat, he replied, "If you wear denim on denim, it will get documented. You know what, I don't think I could even bring that back." About the look (which he and Britney wore 15 years ago but somehow seems like just yesterday), Justin added, "I'm going to go out on a limb and say if it's worn properly, denim on denim could be [brought back]." When asked who he thinks could pull the look off now, he quipped, "Not Donald Trump.

Val Kilmer confirmed on Facebook today that he was asked to come back and reprise his role of "Iceman" in Top Gun 2, and that he accepted the offer. He writes:
“I just got offered Top Gun 2. Not often you get to say 'yes' without reading the script… We will all miss Tony Scott one of the kindest gentlemen I’ve ever met in the film biz, but let’s fire up some fighter jets again!!!”
Tom Cruise has been expected to return for years, so it will be pretty freakin' cool to see Maverick and Iceman on screen together again. Do you think we'll get to see them play volleyball against each other again...as older out-of-shape men?
This Top Gun sequel has been in development for quite a few years, but it seems like things are actually starting to pick up, especially with the announcement of Kilmer. That's sure to get fans excited.

Ah, the future. Who knows what it holds. Wonders? Horrors? Both? One way to find out would be to have someone time travel back to us and give us the skinny, but who knows what kind of butterfly effect that would cause? Enter the new series from Wgn America.

The project, from writer Jeremy Doner ("The Killing"), has received a script against a series commitment, meaning that it would go straight to series if the pilot script gets Wgn’s approval. Gerard Butler is a bit of a hit or miss actor. For every 300 he makes, he also gives us something like Playing for Keeps. The Scottish actor has had his fair share of ups and downs but after the recent success of his latest film, Olympus Has Fallen, it looks like he’s on the rise again. Today we’re hearing that Butler will step in to replace Liam Hemsworth in the sci-fi action film, The Raven.
The project began as a short film in 2010 before being snapped up by Mark Wahlberg, who planned to remake it. Liam Hemsworth was initially attached to star but that has since fallen through and now Butler will take his place. He’ll play the main role, that of Chris Black “a young man on the run from a robotic police force.” Not sure if Butler can qualify as a young man but now...

Jennifer Aniston logged a day on set in Connecticut yesterday with her costars John Hawkes and Isla Fisher. The project they're working on is being directed by Daniel Schechter and is based on a book called The Switch from author Elmore Leonard, though it's still untitled. Of course, Jennifer starred in a 2010 movie called The Switch with Jason Bateman, so the production team is still mulling over an alternate title. Besides filming in Connecticut, Jennifer's dined at local restaurants, including eleven14 Kitchen in Greenwich. While Jen was off doing her thing in front of the cameras, her husband-to-be, Justin Theroux, spent time not too far away in NYC. Decked out in one of his trademark leather jackets, Justin took a stroll in Manhattan with one of his relatives named Sebastian Theroux. Jen and Justin may have been apart for a bit, but they're still in the midst of planning a day celebrating their togetherness.

Whether he’s playing a stoic cop on Southland, the Dad to gay teen Justin on Ugly Betty or the sexy ‘brujo,’ Jesus on True Blood, it’s hard to take your eyes off Kevin Alejandro. Besides his natural, masculine sexiness, Alejandro is also the kind of actor whose conviction to the craft pulls viewers into whatever he is doing onscreen.
There’s only one problem with Alejandro’s work in some of our favorite TV series – he tends to get killed off, which isn’t a good thing for fans of the Texas native.
Alejandro’s latest role is a bit of a departure for him since he’s not playing the good guy this time around but, instead, a disgruntled detective on CBS’s new procedural drama Golden Boy. When young Walter Clark (played by Theo James of Downton Abbey and Bedlam) comes into a New York precinct and takes the limelight,...

Warner Bros. reportedly looked at Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Henry Cavill, Caleb Landry Jones and Scoot McNairy to play the lead role in "Godzilla," this according to Variety reporter Justin Kroll. The "Godzilla" reboot is headed to theaters in 2014 with Gareth Edwards directing. Frank Darabont was just hired to rewrite the film's script.
Kroll tweeted the "Godzilla" shortlist after THR reporter Borys Kit noted that Gordon-Levitt was offered the lead role. As Kit noted, however, Gordon-Levitt passed on the film and the offer wasn't "valid" anymore. Which makes the wording in his original article all the more curious: "The project is ramping up for a spring production start, with offers out to several top actors (including Joseph Gordon-Levitt and others)."
Even if Gordon-Levitt is out of the "Godzilla" running, the actor still has plenty of offers to consider. Last week, he was added to the not-so-short list of possible...

Diablo Cody is back at it again; only this time she’s writing a pilot for ABC. Known best for her quirky character dialogue, most well documented in Juno, Cody is a fantastic writer and creates truly memorable projects, which is definitely an asset that should be required of every writer. She may have written the atrocious Jennifer’s Body, but I’ll never forget that movie. And United States of Tara, Cody’s first series she created for Showtime, was a gem and didn’t deserve to be canceled after only three seasons. Hopefully, Cody will be able to give ABC a series with a long shelf life.
According to Entertainment Weekly, where Cody was once a columnist, ABC bought a pilot script from Cody called Alex + Amy. The official logline for the pilot is: “Comedy about a romance between an ambitious 22-year-old Millennial guy and a 32-year-old Gen...

1.) I didn't really mind X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Everyone else seemed to hate it. That's fine. Now a sequel to the film everyone hated is on the way and with the new picture of Hugh Jackman sporting some bone claws as the title character in the pages of Empire magazine, director James Mangold reveals that while the first film may have been considered a prequel to all the other X-Men features, The Wolverine is not. Mangold told the mag, "Where this film sits in the universe of the films is after them all. Jean Grey Famke Janssen is gone, most of the X-Men are disbanded or gone, so there's a tremendous sense of isolation for him... I wanted to be able to tell the story without the burden of handing it off to a film that already exists and having to conform to it. The ideas of immortality reign very heavily...

"Community" will be back on air on NBC this fall without the active participation of creator and former showrunner Dan Harmon, who was parted from the show in May to much internet outcry from fans after reports of his being difficult to work with, of disagreements with the network and an ugly public feud with Chevy Chase, one of the sitcom's stars. But Harmon may soon have a new series on air. TV Guide reports that he's close to closing a deal with Fox to write a comedy pilot: "Details on the show are sketchy, other than it would likely be a multi-camera comedy (as opposed to single-camera, which is how Community is shot)." And even if that doesn't work out, "[o]ther networks are said to be sniffing around working with him on projects as well." In addition to this Fox project, Harmon's working with Justin Rolland on animated series "Rick & Morty,...
