Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired North American rights to Barista, a documentary from Rock Baijnauth that looks at the world of coffee competitions and the baristas who compete in them. It culminates in the World Barista Championships, which apparently are the Olympic Games of coffee jockeys. A fall release is planned. Baijnauth, the director on HBO’s “The Pirate Tapes,” combined his love of coffee and filmmaking by following some of the rising stars in the coffee world as they prepared for the regional, national and World Barista Championships. Goldwyn plans a fall release.
