Myriad Pictures boards 'Brand: A Second Coming'
The Santa Monica-based sales agent will handle international rights in Cannes on the documentary that recently opened SXSW.

Ondi Timoner wrote and directed Brand: A Second Coming, in which the comedian throws himself into political activism while on a quest for happiness.

The film features appearances by David Lynch, Noel Gallagher, Oliver Stone, Mike Tyson and Stephen Merchant, among others.

“We were so impressed with Ondi Timoner’s provocative and at times even shocking portrait of Russell Brand”, said Myriad president and CEO Kirk D’Amico. “She was able to get truly amazing footage that shows us this extraordinarily brilliant comedian – warts and all.”

Timoner produced and her Interloper Films associate Nick Corcorran served as co-producer. Gareth Roy served as co-producer and Andrew Antonio is executive producer.

Cannes: Myriad boards ‘The Parts You Lose’
Kirk D’Amico’s Santa Monica-based company heads to the Croisette with international sales rights to the Aaron Paul thriller.

Paul starred in TV smash Breaking Bad and reunites with his producer Mark Johnson, who produces The Parts You Lose alongside Tom Williams through their Gran Via Productions and Holland’s Paula van der Oest, whose credits include Accused, Black Butterflies and Zus & Zo, will direct.

Darren Lemke wrote the screenplay to the story of a boy with hearing difficulties who encounters a fugitive in his small North Dakota town.

The filmmakers expect The Parts You Lose to become a German-Canadian co-production and anticipate a fourth quarter start in Manitoba. UTA Independent Film Group and Myriad co-represent Us rights.

Paul will produce through his Lucid Road Productions. Buffalo Gal Pictures will be the Canadian co-producer with Buffalo Gal’s Phyllis Laing and Rhonda Baker also producing.

Myriad Pictures is in Toronto with world sales on the Das Films and Sikhya Films Bollywood-hip-hop dance title from Step Up creator Duane Adler.

Aimee Teegarden (pictured) from the show Friday Night Lights will star as a feisty Us hip-hop dancer who falls in love with a man and a new dance style while attending a wedding in India.

Adler wrote the script to Heart Beats 3D and is preparing to fly to the sub-continent for a first quarter 2015 shoot. Tiger Shroff is in talks to play the Indian love interest Aseem.

Sriram Das produces through his Das Films alongside Guneet Monga and her Sikhya Films.

Negotiations are underway with two unannounced recording artists to create original Bollywood and hip-hop music.

Toronto: Aimee Teegarden Boards Dance Movie ‘Heart Beats 3D’

Friday Night Lights” actress Aimee Teegarden will star in Das Films’ dance-romance movie “Heart Beats 3D.”

Myriad Pictures will handle worldwide sales and is introducing the project at the Toronto Film Festival.

“Heart Beats 3D” is being produced by Sriram Das (“November Man”) through his Das Films banner. Guneet Monga and her company Sikhya Entertainment are also producing.

Teegarden will star as a feisty American hip-hop dancer who travels to India with her family for a wedding and falls in love with a new style of dance and the man who introduces her to it. Tiger Shroff is in talks for the male lead.

The film is scheduled to shoot in India in the first quarter.

Berlin: Emma Thompson Starring in ‘Long Midnight of Barney Thomson’
Emma Thompson has come on board the comic thriller “The Long Midnight of Barney Thomson,” the directorial debut of Robert Carlyle.

The script, based on a series of novels by Douglas Lindsay, was adapted for the screen by Richard Cowan and Colin McLaren. Carlyle will also star in the title role as a downtrodden Scottish barber who inadvertently stumbles into serial murder, allowing his dark fantasies to become reality. Thompson will play his mother, a character who cheerfully emasculates him at every turn.

Ray Winstone and Ewen Bremner will also appear.

Myriad will introduce the film to international buyers at next week’s European Film Market in Berlin. The film, a Canadian-u.K. co-production, is scheduled to go into production in the first half of this year.

Producers are John G. Lenic and Kaleena Kiff through their Trinity Works Entertainment banner. Myriad’s Kirk D’Amico will executive produce.

Robert Carlyle’s Efm-bound feature directorial debut The Long Midnight Of Barney Thomson to star Emma Thompson and Ray Winstone.

The darkly comical thriller will also star Ewen Bremner and Carlyle, who will play the title role.

The Canada-uk co-production is scheduled to begin shooting in the first half of the year.

Vancouver-based John G Lenic and Kaleena Kiff produce through their Trinity Works Entertainment label. Myriad chief Kirk D’Amico will serve as executive producer.

Myriad’s Thomas Loftus negotiated worldwide sales rights with Arthur Evrensel and Lenic on behalf of the filmmakers.

Myriad to sell You’re Not You
Kirk D’Amico and his team will commence sales at the Efm next month on the inspirational drama starring Hilary Swank.

Prince Azim’s Dpp is producing the film, marking what could become a significant move into production and financing by the son of the Sultan of Brunei, with Di Novi Pictures and 2S Films. CAA represents Us rights.

Emmy Rossum, Josh Duhamel and Marcia Gay Harden round out the key cast on You’re Not You and George C Wolfe of Nights In Rodanthe and Lackawanna Blues fame directs.

Shana Feste and Jordan Roberts adapted the novel by Michelle Wildgen about an accomplished woman in her 30s who is diagnosed with the incurable disease Als and hires a young woman as her care-giver with mutually beneficial results. The project is in post-production,

Julian McMahon, Jason Ritter, Frances Fisher, Loretta Devine, Ernie Hudson, Ali Larter and Andrea Savage round out the cast.

Myriad adds Frontera to Afm slate
Myriad Pictures has come on to handle international sales on Ocean Blue Entertainment’s Frontera starring Ed Harris, Eva Longoria and Michael Peña.

Michael Berry directed the thriller from a screenplay he co-wrote with Luis Moulinet III. CAA represents the Us and Canada.

Frontera takes place in the Us-Mexico border region as a lawman investigates corruption in a human trafficking case.

Amy Madigan and Aden Young and Amy Madigan round out the cast. Eric Austin Williams served as executive producer.

“The performances, especially by Ed Harris, Eva Longoria and Michael Peña are remarkable and really bring to life this suspenseful and complex story of the everyday struggles along the Mexican border,” said Myriad president and CEO Kirk D’Amico.
