American Horror Story Review, Season 1, Episode 12, “Afterbirth”

Written by Jessica Sharzer

Directed by Bradley Buecker

Airs Wednesdays at 10:00 pm Et on FX

Warning: Spoilers

The opening flashback brings back the delusional Ben we knew for most of the season. Vivien’s ready to leave, but Ben pulls her back with promises of piecing the family back together by moving into the house. This early in the game, Ben was just scrambling to hold onto his life. He didn’t really understand the effects of his infidelity, so he’s really just lying to himself. Dylan McDermott does a great job of acting “badly” as Ben and shifting to the newly broken Ben in the present.

After some serious deliberation (to put it lightly), Ben decides to move out and raise his wife’s son. Right before he can leave, Hayden and some of the ghosts hang him from the chandelier. »

American Horror Story Season 2 Anthology Details Reveal New House and New Cast

"Those characters? Their stories are done!"

Last night saw the Season 1 finale of American Horror Story satisfyingly wrap up the plight of the Harmon Family, with Ben (Dylan McDermott), Vivien (Connie Britton), and Violet (Taissa Farmiga) becoming ghosts determined to keep any future residents from staking a claim in their infamous Murder House.

There was no cliff hanger, and with the main cast dead, it has left many fans asking, "What's next for American Horror Story Season 2?"

Today, show creator Ryan Murphy and FX Network President John Landgraf took a conference call to discuss their plans for future seasons of American Horror Story, for the first time announcing that the series has always intended to be an anthology, not unlike Tales from the Crypt or The Twilight Zone. Only here, each new story will span an entire season as opposed to being contained in a single episode.

"Next year of the show will be a different haunting," Murphy said. "The next season of the show will be a brand-new home or building to haunt." He went on to say that some of the cast members will be coming back, before adding that they will be playing entirely different characters. "Some of them will be coming back. American Horror Story Season Finale Recap: Afterbirth

21 December 2011 8:10 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

This is it, folks-the moment you’ve all been waiting for! We’ve followed the Harmons from day one as they picked up their dysfunctional lives back in Boston and set their sights on familial rehabilitation in Los Angeles. What Ben (Dylan McDermott), Vivien (Connie Britton) and Violet (Taissa Farmiga) found was much, much more than they bargained for; as viewers, we can say the same. In what could have easily been a one-note series about a family living in a haunted house, American Horror Story used that device to explore social relationships, psychological trauma, and grisly moments in Hollywood history all while giving us memorable, complex characters and a helluva good time. If you’ve missed out on the fun that is Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy’s (Glee and Nip/Tuck) twisted creation, check out all of our previous recaps here. For the Ahs initiated, hit the jump »

‘American Horror Story’ Season 1 Finale Review & Discussion

21 December 2011 8:03 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Over the past 12 weeks, FX’s American Horror Story has done a beautiful job at telling a really ugly little story. And now, the first season of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s haunted house tale has come to a close, and strangely enough, after all the mystery and ambiguity that initially surrounded the series, we are left with a pretty clear picture of where Ahs will be headed in future episodes.

At this point in the season, it would be something of a letdown if someone in the Murder House – preferably someone with the last name Harmon – didn’t end up a permanent resident of the real estate nightmare. Once Violet (Taissa Farmiga) said goodbye to this mortal coil during ‘Smoldering Children’ (arguably the high point of the season), her mother Vivien (Connie Britton) ...

American Horror Story Episode Eleven: And Then There Was One...

American Horror Story Episode Eleven: And Then There Was One...

Oh. My. God. The penultimate episode of American Horror Story's first season brought the pain. Figuratively and literally.

R.I.P. Vivien Harmon (and Stillborn Harmon)

While I've had the feeling that another Harmon would bite the dust before the finale, the delivery of that foreshadowed doom was still a gut-wrenching experience. After that mind frak of a birthing scene, Vivien finally succumbed to the complications of her giving birth, which also took the life of Ben's child, as well. Now Ben is truly "alone" in that God forsaken House and he still doesn't have a clue about what's going on around him. Now after losing his wife, Violet, and his son (technically) all in one day, you have to imagine just how long will it take before Ben completely checks out mentally, by either hurting someone or killing himself in the process. »
