Mini Bio (1)

Taissa Farmiga is an American actress, and the younger sister of Academy Award nominee Vera Farmiga, who is 21 years her senior. She was born in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, USA, to Ukrainian-born parents.

Unlike her older sister, Taissa initially had no interest in becoming an actor. However, she was persuaded to make her acting debut in Vera's directorial debut film Higher Ground (2011). Also playing the lead, Vera wanted to cast someone who was physically similar to play the younger version of her character. Taissa was age 15 and, apart from a school play, had no previous acting experience. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and Taissa's performance received critical acclaim. It was after Sundance that Taissa officially decided to pursue acting.

At age 16, she landed a leading role as Violet Harmon in the Fox horror series American Horror Story (2011). She has since starred in Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring (2013), Jorge Dorado's Anna (2013), Todd Strauss-Schulson's The Final Girls (2015), Hannah Fidell's 6 Years (2015), Ti West's In a Valley of Violence (2016), and Warren Beatty's Rules Don't Apply (2016).

Personal Quotes (6)

[on playing the strong-willed, feisty Violet in American Horror Story (2011)] The horror aspect, the scary parts, are easy for me. I mean I can get into that pretty easy, because I get scared. You have to invest yourself in these characters.
I was hoping, actually, that being on the other side of the camera in a scary movie, see how it's filmed and maybe you won't be as scared next time you watch one... didn't really work out! Because I know it's fake, but I just get so into it.
I get scared easily, so I'm not one for just sitting down with a bowl of popcorn and watching horror stories. But, I mean, I'm learning more. Maybe one day I'd like to be able to watch them.
American Horror Story (2011) is dark, so you shouldn't be expecting too much happiness.
I can't say that I fully relate to things that I play. Sometimes it's nice to spend half the day crying, then you don't have to do it in real life.
[on The Bling Ring (2013)] I just hope that it comes as a warning. Just for kids to see how bad things can get with social media and celebrity obsession, that you can't take things this far. Admiration is great, but there is a line not to cross.
