Mark Hamill says the Star Wars prequels are more original than The Force Awakens

To promote his return as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Mark Hamill has been chatting to Metro about the Star Wars saga, during which he has defended the much-maligned Prequel Trilogy, stating that Lucas’ movies were more original than Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

“What I thought was great about the prequels was the different technology that I had never seen before. All that CGI. And the fact that [George Lucas] wasn’t trying to do the same experience all over again. I thought The Force Awakens did that more than the early ones, because it had that the girl from a different planet, the Death Star, the Cantina sequence. [J.J. Abrams] was trying to figure out what was it about the original movies that everybody loved. And that’s a different thought process than what George would have done. Because he would go, ‘I had a beginning, middle, and

Star Wars: The Last Jedi debuts to second-biggest ever opening day at the box office

After starting its North American theatrical run with the second biggest ever Thursday preview takings, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has carried that into its first full day at the box office, with the movie grossing $100.4 million on Friday, second only to Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $119 million.

Having been tracking a $200 million domestic opening weekend, analysts are now suggesting a $208 million to $214 million debut for The Last Jedi, which would put it ahead of The Avengers ($207.4 million) and potentially Jurassic World ($208.8 million) for the second best opening weekend after The Force Awakens ($247.9 million).

International numbers are still to come in for Friday, but The Last Jedi had grossed $60.8 million from 48 markets by close of play on Thursday. Worldwide opening estimates for the film put its weekend at around $425 million.

Box Office: ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Rockets to $215 Million Opening Weekend
Disney-Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is set to take over the box office in its opening weekend, raking in around $215 million from 4,232 North American sites.

Including $45 million from Thursday previews — the second-largest Thursday night preview total ever, below “Star Wars: The Force Awakens’s” 2015 total of $57 million — the tentpole film brought in $104 million from Friday, and is looking to add over $100 million between Saturday and Sunday.

The total gross will make “The Last Jedi” the fourth film in domestic box office history to make over $200 million in its first weekend, joining “The Force Awakens” with $248.8 million, “Jurassic World” with $208.8 million, and 2012’s “The Avengers” with $207.4 million. “The Last Jedi” will finish significantly above Star Wars spinoff “Rogue One,” which opened with $155.1 million on the same weekend a year ago.

The box office Force is with Disney-Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” which is heading for more than $200 million at 4,232 North American sites in its opening weekend, early estimates showed Friday.

The tentpole opened with $45 million on Thursday night — the second-largest Thursday night preview gross ever in North America, trailing only the $57 million for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” two years ago. The total for Friday (which includes Thursday night) should wind up in the $95 million to $98 million range, followed by as much as $60 million on Saturday and somewhere around $45 million to $48 million on Sunday.

That would mean “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will become only the fourth movie to top $200 million domestically in its opening frame, joining 2015’s “The Force Awakens” at $248.8 million, 2015’s “Jurassic World” with $208.8 million, and 2012’s “The Avengers” with $207.4 million. The Cast Of Star Wars: The Last Jedi Get Classy For Gorgeous Vogue Photoshoot

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has a surprisingly good eye for fashion and couture. In the casino sequence on Canto Bight, for instance, Finn and Rose encounter the 1%’ers of the Star Wars universe, all dressed in the galaxy’s finest and most expensive clothing. It looks as though whoever designed the costumes for this sequence had some fun in imagining the most extreme outfits they could.

Now, back on Earth, the key players of The Last Jedi have gotten their own opportunity to class the place up, with the British Vogue magazine squeezing the cast (plus director Rian Johnson and producer Ram Bergman) into some fine looking suits and gowns. Included here are John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Mark Hamill, Laura Dern, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleason, Benicio Del Toro and more. Notable by her absence though is Daisy Ridley, who was presumably otherwise engaged

Prince William and Prince Harry Play 2 Iconic Characters in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Minor spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi below! Prince William and Prince Harry have officially joined the First Order. After visiting the set of Star Wars: The Last Jedi last April, the film's star John Boyega (who plays Finn) confirmed that the royal brothers would make a special cameo as stormtroopers in the upcoming film. And that's not even the best part! Not only do they share a scene with Boyega, but Tom Hardy and Gary Barlow appear alongside them as stormtroopers as well. If you're wondering when to keep your eyes peeled for the royal duo, the moment reportedly comes during a scene towards the end of the film. Finn and new pal Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran) are captured by the First Order, and subsequently surrounded by stormtroopers. Apparently William and Harry are under the masks of two of those white armor-clad guards. "It was a great experience,

What to Know About Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Tiny Last Jedi Character, Slowen-Lo

Minor spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi below! We have to hand it to Star Wars: The Last Jedi - the movie really upped its game in terms of celebrity cameos this time around. There's one sequence in the film in particular that features a handful of eye-catching A-list characters, and it comes about halfway through The Last Jedi's two and a half hour runtime. Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o) instructs dynamic duo Finn (John Boyega) and Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran) to find a master codebreaker (aka a "slicer") to help them take down one of the First Order's ships. When they finally do find the slicer in a Canto Bight casino, he's played by a mustachioed Justin Theroux. That same scene also features a small (and adorable) cameo from Carrie Fisher's dog, Gary Fisher, who's CGI'd to look like an alien. On top of those surprise appearances,
