First things first: Anyone who might have been worried that “Sense8” — operating under the notion that a Christmas special should be somewhat family-friendly —  would choose to cut back on the sex and violence… nope! Merry Christmas from Netflix, who knows exactly what fans of the mind-bending drama want from the series: the opportunity to watch these eight no-longer-strangers unite for ass-kicking and orgies.

The two-hour “A Christmas Special” functions largely as a continuation of the story established in Season 1, covering a period of several months over the lives of our favorite Senseates. Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.

Anomalisa (Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson)

Charlie Kaufman, the writer behind Being John Malkovich and Adaptation, teams up with animator Duke Johnson to create a complex emotional drama starring lifelike puppets. The premise is riddled with existential dread of modern-day life, presented uniquely through Kaufman’s idiosyncratic point-of-view. For protagonist and self-help author Michael Stone (voiced soulfully by David Thewlis), everyone around him has the same voice (thanks to »

Netflix Announces ‘Sense8’ Christmas Special and Season 2 Premiere Dates

3 December 2016 4:12 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

O come, all ye “Sense8” faithful.

Netflix has announced a two-hour Christmas special will be available around the globe on Dec. 23. What’s more, Season 2 will pick up with 10 new episodes on May 5.

As Netflix debuts are wont to do, the shows will be available to stream (and now possibly download) starting at 12:01 a.m. Pt on the given release date.

The description provided for the Christmas Special leaves a lot to the imagination: “The journey continues as these eight singular hearts and minds weave in and out of each other’s lives finding deeper connections, learning darker, more desperate secrets about one another and struggling to identify with more than just oneself.” A similarly vague setup for Season 2 says that the whole cast will struggle to survive and understand one another “against all odds.”

Transgender Representation On TV Hitting New Highs, From ‘Transparent’ to ‘I Am Cait’

8 June 2016 9:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Next year, Laverne Cox will play an Ivy League-educated lawyer in the CBS series “Doubt,” making her the first transgender actor to play a transgender series regular character on broadcast television. It’s a looming historic moment for television, and one in a series of recent turning points that indicates change and acceptance for the transgender community.

In 2015, Caitlyn Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover launched with viral force followed up by her reality series “I Am Cait.” In 2014, Amazon found a juggernaut in “Transparent.” The year prior, Cox was starting to become a household name for her performance in “Orange Is the New Black” and her transgender activism.

Yet, almost one year after Jenner’s announcement, transgender representation on television is still leaping over hurdles. “We still have a long way to go,” says Nick Adams, GLAAD’s director of programs and transgender media.
