CBS released trailers for its new shows for the 2017-2018 season following its upfront presentation in New York on Wednesday, including first looks at “Big Bang Theory” prequel “Young Sheldon,” the reboot of “S.W.A.T.” with Shemar Moore, and the Jeremy Piven-led drama “Wisdom of the Crowd,” among others.

Young Sheldon,” which stars Iain Armitage as the nine-year-old version of Jim Parsons’ Dr. Sheldon Cooper, will air after “Big Bang” on Thursdays, beginning on Nov. 2, once Thursday Night Football concludes. The network will air a special preview of the pilot on Sept. 25. New comedies “9Jkl” and “Me, Myself, and I” will air on Mondays along with “Kevin Can Wait.”

No “Bull,” CBS wants you to know that the freshman Michael Weatherly series is actually the No. 1 new show of the year in total viewers, over NBC’s lauded “This Is Us.”

“We congratulate them on their success, but we like winning,” CBS senior exec VP Kelly Kahl said. He also pointed out that even CBS’ “Blue Bloods” has a larger audience than any other drama on the other networks, except “This Is Us.”

The Big Bang Theory” is the “Wayne Gretzky of comedy,” he noted, arguing that no other half-hour comes close in total viewers, which is why they’re big on spinoff entry “Young Sheldon.” The show was recently renewed for two more seasons, a negotiation that Moonves characterized as amicable.

CBS has given series pickups to four new dramas and two new comedies for the 2017-18 season.

StudioCanal will distribute films from Lionsgate.s Summit Entertainment label in Australia and New Zealand after the two companies signed a long term output deal.

Summit's films were previously released in Australia by eOne. Titles such as John Wick: Chapter Two and the upcoming Robin Hood, starring Taron Egerton and Tim Minchin, will now migrate over to StudioCanal's release sked.

Other titles included in the deal are the action thriller Granite Mountain, with Alex Russell, Josh Brolin, Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges and Taylor Kitsch, and sci-fi crime thriller Kin, starring Jack Reynor, James Franco and Zoë Kravitz.

After graduating from Waapa in 2007, actor turned writer-director David O.Donnell moved to Sydney, where he met Nida student Alex Russell through another actor friend, Ande Cunningham.

The trio has been working together ever since, forming their own company, Five Lip Films, with two of Russell.s fellow Nida students, James Elliot and Sarah-Jane McAllan.

All five are in development on their own projects. Last year Cunningham directed short film Oranges Don.t Grow on Trees, featuring Russell and Sarah Snook..

Ellen Burstyn to Make Directorial Debut With Dark Comedy ‘Bathing Flo’

Ellen Burstyn will make her directorial debut and star in the dark comedy “Bathing Flo.” Production is slated to start in New York in the spring.

QC Entertainment, Thruline Entertainment and actress Lauren Lake are producing with casting under way. Burstyn is also executive producing.

Inspired by a true story, the screenplay was written by Lake, based on an initial screenplay by Danny Brocklehurst and Danny Sherman. Lake will also co-star in “Bathing Flo.”

Along with Lake, the film will be produced by QC Entertainment’s Sean McKittrick and Ray Mansfield along with Thruline Entertainment’s Sherman. Edward H. Hamm Jr. and Shaun Redick will be executive producers. Erica Steinberg will serve in a producing capacity.
