Top 10 Movies of 2016 Before Oscar Season

28 September 2016 4:12 PM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

The Fall is here and that means a lot of premeditated releases by every studio is about to hit between now and the end of the year, films that they think will have award, specifically, Oscar appeal.

When it comes to movies typically award-talk is often a nebulous affair until the final quarter of the year, not just because it’s too premature earlier in the year but mostly because of this unofficial Oscar season slate of release and, to a lesser extent, people tend to forget films later in the year that were released in the first few months going into the Summer. An example last year was Ex Machina which had at least a  couple of Oscar-level performances and still has me feeling it was one of the 3-4 best movies from last year. Alicia Vikander won just about every award for her performance in the film sans the Oscar, »

Rumour: Nightwatch could appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming

28 September 2016 10:30 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

You may want to have your pinch of salt at the ready for this one, but according to Bleeding Cool, the Marvel superhero Nightwatch could be set for an appearance in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The site reports that Sony employees have been out and about picking up as many Nightwatch comics as they can in order to research the character for a movie appearance, potentially in Spider-Man: Homecoming. They also speculate that Nightwatch could be Bokeem Woodbine’s character rather than Shocker, which seems a bit of a stretch given that a) we’ve seen Woodbine listed as Shocker on a leaked call sheet, and b) he looks nothing like Nightwatch in costume.

Nightwatch was created by Terry Kavanagh and Alex Saviuk and made his debut back in 1993 in Web of Spider-Man #99 (hence the reason the character falls under Sony’s remit in terms of movie rights). He »

DVD Review – The Nice Guys (2016)

26 September 2016 1:50 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The Nice Guys, 2016.

Directed by Shane Black.

Starring Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling, Angourie Rice, Matt Bomer, Keith David, Gil Gerard, Kim Basinger, Beau Knapp and Margaret Qualley.

Synopsis:

A private detective and an enforcer team up to infiltrate the porn industry in 1977 Los Angeles.

Mismatched buddy movies have been a constant staple of Hollywood since the year dot and Shane Black’s 1987 hit Lethal Weapon is still pretty much the benchmark to which all others adhere to, the stars in perfect alignment with regards to script, actors and direction. With The Nice Guys, Black returns to the sub-genre but this time the emphasis is on the comedy rather than the action, and where better to start than hiring two actors not exactly known for their comedy chops. That’s right; instead of ‘Mad’ Mel and straight man Danny Glover – admittedly another two actors that don’t immediately spring to mind »

Spider-Man: Homecoming Video Shows Off Tom Holland's Breakdancing Skills

12 September 2016 11:16 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last week, the Russo Brothers sent out a photo featuring Josh Brolin in his motion-capture suit, going through rehearsals to play Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, which starts filming later this year. Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts decided to up the ante a bit by sending out a new video with his star Tom Holland, also in a full motion-capture suit, showing off his dance moves. We get to see what the dancing Spidey looks like in his full digital costume, along with Tom Holland busting a move on the stage, set to the song "Doing It Right" by Daft Punk.

The Instagram video also features one of Tom Holland's co-stars, Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned Leeds in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The actor isn't in motion-capture gear, and we don't know if Jacob Batalon is part of a scene that requires Spidey's mo-cap suit, or perhaps he's just there to watch Tom Holland dance. »

Shocker Revealed in Spider-Man: Homecoming Set Photos?

5 September 2016 3:12 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

A few weeks ago, a rumored cast list leaked for Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming, which revealed a number of intriguing details. The list seemingly confirmed an earlier rumor that actress Angourie Rice was playing Betty Brant, and that Bokeem Woodbine is playing The Shocker, a character which may have finally surfaced in new set photos. While we don't know for sure if the character in these photos is The Shocker, the costume certainly seems to match up with The Shocker's costume from the comics.

The Shocker, a.k.a. Herman Schultz, was created by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr. in 1967, first appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #46 in March 1967. The character was a high school dropout but also a brilliant engineer, who used two gauntlets he invented that emit high-energy blasts to break out of prison, after he was caught for a string of burglaries. Is This Our First Look At The Shocker Of Spider-Man: Homecoming?

5 September 2016 2:06 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s been one of the most prominent questions to linger over Jon Watts’ 2017 reboot in recent weeks – just who is playing The Shocker in Spider-Man: Homecoming?

A leaked casting docket that surfaced online appeared to unveil the true identity of the actor behind Herman Schultz, though it wasn’t until co-star Hannibal Buress inadvertently verified said casting sheet a few days later that fans really began to stand up and take notice.

More News From The Web

For all intents and purposes – and barring an abrupt bait-and-switch by Marvel Studios – it is Bokeem Woodbine that will assume the part of the street-level thug come 2017. An engineering mastermind by trade, Herman Schultz gained a reputation as The Shocker by donning the grubby yellow body stocking that completely masks his face and body. Now, thanks to Marvel News, it seems we have the first glimpse of those duds in action.

Spider-Man Emerges from the Shadows in New Homecoming Photo

2 September 2016 10:56 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Yesterday we got our first look at Marisa Tomei as Aunt May in the latest photos from the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is still filming in Atlanta. While we still don't know how long production is expected to last for, star Tom Holland shared a new photo from the set, featuring his Spider-Man character lurking in the shadows. The actor also took the time to thank his stunt team for making him look like a "badass" during the production.

It's possible that filming could be wrapping up soon, since the actor took the time to thank George J. Cottle and his stunt team in his Instagram post. It's possible that the stunt team's work on the movie is complete, which could mean that principal photography could also wrap soon, but we don't know for sure. Production started in late June in Atlanta, with the cast and director Jon Watts »

First Look at Marisa Tomei as Aunt May in Spider-Man: Homecoming

1 September 2016 7:46 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Earlier today, news broke that another beloved Marvel character is returning for the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming, with Jon Favreau reprising his role as Happy Hogan, the driver and bodyguard for Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark. With production still under way in Atlanta, it may not be too long before we get our first look at this returning character, but until then, new photos have arrived that give us our first look at Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. The actress made her McU debut in this summer's Captain America: Civil War alongside her on-screen nephew, Tom Holland.

Just Jared released these photos, which were taken yesterday on the Atlanta set, featuring Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei walking together. No details about this scene were revealed, but this is the first time we've seen her on the set since production started back in June. We don't know for sure how much filming is left, »

First Look At Marisa Tomei On The Set Of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming

Maria Tomei made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War earlier this year, and she will obviously reprise the role of Aunt May in Spider-Man: Homecoming. We’ve seen very little of the character thus far though and how much this version of Peter Parker’s closest living relative will differ to previous versions is currently unknown.

She’s obviously a lot younger and trendier, for a start, and that’s something we see very clearly in these new photos from the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming in Atlanta. No details have been revealed in regards to what’s happening in the scene, but Tom Holland was seen embracing the actress, so it seems as if they’re possibly meeting up after school has finished – or something along those lines.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Is Bringing Back This Iron Man Character

1 September 2016 4:13 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming simply refuses to stop growing. Now, a Marvel Cinematic Universe favorite is making his return to the big screen, as Jon Favreau is set to reprise the role he played for the first time in Iron Man back in 2008. Yes, Tony Stark's right-hand-man Happy Hogan is now set to appear in the movie.

Variety broke the news on Thursday, but the report didn't say anything about how large of a role Happy will play in the movie. Our best guess is, not a very big one, given the staggering size of the cast at this point. Marvel and Sony have also yet to comment on the news, but fans will likely welcome the appearance of Favreau in the movie, given that he hasn't appeared in an McU movie since Iron Man 3 in 2013, making it four years since his last appearance by the time Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters. »

Who Is Hannibal Buress Playing in Spider-Man: Homecoming?

31 August 2016 1:32 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Back in June, comedian and actor Hannibal Buress signed on for an unspecified role in Marvel and Sony's highly-anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming, but, naturally, nothing was revealed about his character. Aside from a few characters like Tom Holland playing Peter Parker and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, most of the rest of the characters haven't been confirmed, until now. During a radio interview, Hannibal Buress revealed exactly who he's playing, which may validate earlier rumors about other characters.

During a Comic-Con interview, director Jon Watts revealed that Tony Revolori is playing Flash, most likely Flash Thompson from the comics, with Zendaya playing Michelle, Jacob Batalon playing Ned and Laura Harrier portraying Liz, who most fans believe are Michelle Gonzales, Ned Leeds and Liz Allan from the comics, respectively.
