Second Opinion – Aftermath (2017)

6 April 2017 12:10 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Aftermath, 2017.

Directed by Elliott Lester.

Starring Arnold SchwarzeneggerScoot McNairyMaggie GraceMartin DonovanHannah WareMariana KlavenoKevin Zegers, and Larry Sullivan.

Synopsis:

Two strangers’ lives become inextricably bound together after a devastating plane crash.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is entering arguably the most interesting period of his career to date. The soon-to-be-septuagenarian seems well aware that he’s no longer credible as a gung-ho action star, and is slowly starting to lean towards lower-key (and certainly lower-budget) dramas that demand his grizzled grit rather than bulging biceps.

After 2015’s somber zombie drama Maggie proved Arnie’s more restrained acting chops, he follows up with this emotionally-charged dramatic thriller that touts one of his best and most considered performances to date.

Based on the very real 2002 Überlingen mid-air collision, Aftermath follows Roman (Schwarzenegger), a man whose wife and pregnant daughter are killed in a plane crash caused by negligent behaviour from air traffic control. »

Since returning to movies following his stint as the Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger has had a mixed bag of films. In truth he spent the late 90’s, and the early part of the new millennium in a steep decline before his political sabbatical. Among a failed attempt at franchise resurrection with Terminator Genisys, Arnold has tried to vary his roles and attempt to branch out into more grounded, human roles. There’s been a distinct and deliberate attempt to acknowledge his age, and to try »

Trailer released for Schwarzenegger’s ‘Aftermath’

8 February 2017 5:01 AM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Here’s a question: is this the new wave of films we’re expecting? Have we lost all sense of creativity that now we have to look towards terrible events as a means to create a film with emotional appeal? Be it Patriots Day or Bastille Day from last year alone, to countless other films released in the past decade– it’s a manipulation of the emotions that warrants questioning. Granted, this is completely different from historical films like All The President’s Men or Zodiac, but then the question is, is it any different than films from World War II or Vietnam, like Pearl Harbor or Apocalypse Now

Anyhow. .. .

Arnold Schwarzenegger is definitely pulling it in with that emotional appeal. He lost his wife all the while is busy attempting to fight a white guy in power who lost his old job.

No this isn’t the real world. »
