Blu Room: I Am Number Four Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack

I Am Number Four (Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack)Walt Disney Home Entertainment2011/Rated PG-13/109 minsList Price: $44.99 – Now AvailableDoes anyone remember an NBC TV series from back in the eighties called The Powers of Matthew Star? It featured a young Peter Barton as a High School kid who began to manifest incredible abilities and discovered he was the member of a Royal family on an alien planet. Sharing his secret was the school janitor, Louis Gossett, Jr., who served as his mentor and would guide him in the ways of their planet. When I heard the premise of I Am Number Four, it was nearly impossible for me not think of that short-lived sci-fi series. And to be honest, the final product ain't much different. Instead of being hunted by FBI agents, the teenager from another world, played here by Alex Pettyfer, is running from an evil alien race out to kill him. »

DVD Review: I Am Number Four, Gnomeo and Juliet, Passion Play and Burning Palms

31 May 2011 9:24 PM, PDT | ShockYa | See recent ShockYa news »

Back in the day, Bill Cosby’s “Leonard Part 6″ didn’t have much luck introducing itself to audiences as an original product with a higher integer in its title, and the teen-lilting sci-fi action adventure “I Am Number Four” perhaps elicited similar confusion when it bowed in theaters earlier this February. Unimpressive domestic returns ($55 million), however, might not have sullied the chances of survival for this adaptation of the first in a proposed six-book series cowritten by James Frey (yes, the lying author emasculated by Oprah Winfrey) and Jobie Hughes. If it returns, one will have both international markets (where it grossed $90 million) and the presence of Teresa Palmer, »

I Am Number Four - Blu-ray Review

31 May 2011 7:21 AM, PDT | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

I Am Number Four is a fast-paced sci-fi romp that feels familiar, but manages to be entertaining. It is a popcorn adventure film with decent effects and acting that is a fun watch on a rainy afternoon. Based on the novel by Pittacus Lore (James Frey and Jobie Hughes), the film was directed by D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye and Disturbia) with a screenplay from Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (the creative minds behind Smallville and the upcoming Charlie's Angels television series) and Marti Noxon (television's Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the upcoming remake of Fright Night). It stars Alex Pettyfer (Beastly), Timothy Olyphant (A Perfect Getaway), Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer's Apprentice), Dianna Agron (Glee), Callan McAuliffe (Flipped), »

It's another slow week on the home entertainment front as we slide into summer awaiting the big guns (so to speak, with 'True Grit' arriving June 7) to come to DVD. In the meantime, this Tuesday brings us an adult tragedy disguised as a kids animated comedy, and a teen coming-of-age drama disguised as a sci-fi actioner. The former is the animated 'Gnomeo and Juliet,' based on William Shakespeare's romantic tale of star-stuck lovers; the later is 'I Am Number Four,' based on the young adult novel by Pittacus Lore. Review: ‘I Am Number Four’

22 May 2011 5:38 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

A young boy from another world is raised on in the mid-west to use his special abilities for the good of all. He struggles to fit in at high school, constantly hiding his true nature under the watchful eye of his mentor. After Smallville, one would have thought the writing team of Alfred Gough and Miles Millar would have been comfortable with the subject matter much as Marti Noxon could have used her experiences from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to add some snark and fun to the high school life. Instead, the three combined to pen a middling, ineffective script adaptation of I Am Number Four. The movie, made for just under $60 million earned barely $90 million worldwide and extinguished much hope of a film series to follow the projected six book franchise. Now out from Walt Disney Home Entertainment, the movie is so incredibly devoid of personality and charm, it »

I Am Number Four Review

I Am Number Four Directed by: D.J. Caruso Written by: Alfred Gough & Miles Millar, Marti Noxon (Screenplay), Jobie Hughes & James Frey (novel) Starring: Alex Pettyfer, Timothy Olyphant, Dianna Agron I Am Number Four is Number Two. A cheap joke, but it's just what this adolescent stinker deserves. Granted, nigh unwatchable cinematic misfires haunt the calendar's early months, amongst whose company D.J. Caruso's latest foray into teen actioners is admittedly a god among insects. Copping a Michael Bay aesthetic (Bay produces), Number Four does Twilight by way of Transformers. The film is slick, glossy, and absolutely uninteresting. Never mind that these characters are extraterrestrials from the planet Lorien, it's their blatant lapses in logic that seem most alien. After all, the good guys are identical to human beings (the bad guys have facial gills) in all but one key way. Cue our hero's warrior guardian with this hilariously hokey line: "When we love, »
