Believe it or not, Ben Fox (Nat Fixon) from Ben and Kate and Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) from Community are Oscar-winning screenwriters; the two have reunited for their directing debut, The Way, Way Back. Fox Searchlight acquired their picture for $10 million at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, and has scheduled it to serve as blockbuster counter-programming during the Fourth of July holiday frame.
The trailer focuses on the film’s humor and characters – brought to life by award-winning actors like Sam Rockwell (Seven Psychopaths), Allison Janney (Juno), Toni Collette and her Little Miss Sunshine costar Steve Carell – while also covering the basics of its “one unforgettable summer” storyline.

The cute freshman Fox series, Ben and Kate, now has a cute and familiar actress coming in for a multi-episode guest role. She’s Brittany Snow and you may just remember her performances on Pitch Perfect and American Dreams. Snow also sang songs for Hairspray, acted on Harry’s Law, and portrayed the younger version of Kelly Rutherford’s Lily for Gossip Girl‘s all ’80s episode on the CW network.
In her arc, Snow will play a love interest for actor Echo Kellum’s character, Tommy, on the set of Ben and Kate. Those adorable blue eyes were matched with an adorable meet-cute. Tommy and Snow’s character meet while she’s walking her dog. It’s a terrier to be exact, according to E!.

What could possibly be more stressful than gathering with family for Thanksgiving? How about gathering with old high-school classmates? That's exactly what "Ben and Kate" faces in the show's Thanksgiving episode, "Reunion."
But it's not all parties and big family dinners. Oh no -- there are some major relationship issues that need to be worked out before the holiday can end. Also, there's a turkey named Keith.
Both Ben (Nat Faxon) and Kate (Dakota Johnson) have some complicated things they need to say with regard to their respective relationships. For Ben, this means mentioning to his sister that -- at some point in the past -- he actually married their mutual friend, Bj (Lucy Punch). Thanks to mail from the IRS, this secret seems about ready to be exposed.
As for Kate, the issues are just as problematic, if not quite so secretive. She has been seeing her neighbor, Will...

One of the potential problems with Fox's new comedy "Ben and Kate" is that the free-spirited Ben Fox could easily turn into a sitcom cliche who causes problems every week. Thankfully, the second episode revolved around a problem of Kate's doing.
Kate lied to the school board and said she and Maddie lived in Tommy's house so her daughter could go a better elementary school -- the one she and Ben went to, in fact. While she managed to avoid all school board members, Ben's meddling forced her to interact with positions of authority.

The idea of one sibling with their life together and another who just can’t seem to grow up has been visited time and time again in both film and television. But somehow, the new Fox comedy series Ben and Kate – starring Nat Faxon (Bad Teacher and co-writer of The Descendants) and Dakota Johnson (21 Jump Street, The Social Network) as the titular brother and sister – brings a fresh approach with a lot of charm and scene-stealing supporting characters.
Ben Fox is the manchild who never quite learned how to take on responsibility, while Kate Fox is the woman who grew up too fast (complete with a seemingly unexpected pregnancy) leaving her with a precocious and adorable 5-year old daughter, Maddie (We Bought a Zoo star Maggie Elizabeth Jones). One of the fall's most delightful new comedies, Fox's "Ben and Kate," which premieres Tuesday, Sept. 25, revolves around a pair of odd-couple siblings (Nat Faxon, Dakota Johnson) joined at the hip following a childhood that clearly was no bed of roses.
Forced by aloof parents to more or less parent each other, Ben and Kate Fox have spent their recent years living in different California cities. At the moment, Kate is working as a bar manager to support Maddie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones), her precocious daughter, whose unplanned arrival five years ago forced Kate to drop out of college just shy of graduation and put her life on hold, acting responsibly and following the rules, just as she has all her life.

Before he won an Oscar this year for helping adapt the book on which Alexander Payne’s The Descendants was based, Nat Faxon had survived Hollywood on steady guest spots, parts in failed sitcoms (including his first as Kevin the Pa in Grosse Pointe, which we still miss dearly) and voice work on Seth MacFarlane’s animated shows. Now he’s busy wrapping The Way, Way Back, a film he wrote and directed with Community’s Jim Rash, and starring in the new Fox sibling comedy Ben and Kate (premiering tonight at 8:30 p.m.). On his first day off from shooting, Faxon spoke with Vulture about the man-child who, in success, he’ll be playing for the next six seasons, the alien script that tested his friendship with Rash before they landed The Descendants, and how he failed to get in on Angelina Jolie’s Leg action. The original...

Ben Fox is a force of nature -- in real life and in the TV world. Ben is the main character in Fox's delightful new sitcom "Ben and Kate," but he's also the real-life brother of show creator Dana Fox. So Nat Faxon, who plays the fictional Ben, has a lot to live up to.
Fox tells reporters at the 2012 summer Television Critics Association press tour that her older brother was always a Ferris Bueller-type person throughout her life -- the kind of guy who always finds the party and always finds new adventures. You couldn't have ever guessed that he would grow up to become such a great dad.
"In a million years if you had met my brother when he was younger you never would've believed he could've kept two kids alive," Fox says, let alone become what she calls "the world's greatest father."

Two network series set to start taping this summer have found casting directors. After Susan Edelman cast the successful pilot, Jeff Greenberg has been brought in to cast the first season of ABC’s “How to Live With Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life,” Back Stage has learned. The half-hour comedy stars former “Scrubs” mainstay Sarah Chalke as Polly, an uptight recent divorcee who, because of the bad economy, moves in with her laidback parents played by Elizabeth Perkins (“Weeds”) and Brad Garrett (“Everybody Loves Ramond”).The series begins shooting in August and is set for a mid-season debut. Meanwhile, a new Fox comedy kept its casting director after the pilot was picked up. Anya Colloff, of Cfb Casting, was retained for the first season of “Ben and Kate.” The single-camera comedy stars Nat Faxon as Ben Fox, a shiftless man-child who moves in with his sister Kate,...

It’s that time of year, and the networks are revealing their schedules for fall. Fox is always an interesting network when it comes to the upfront season, because they usually don’t have a lot of changes, but they often have fascinating (if doomed) series on the horizon.
The full schedule is below, as are breakdowns of the specific shows, along with trailers, and I want to make sure to point out that they are likely to expire very soon, so you want to catch them while you can.
The really big news for fall is that Glee is moving. The not so big news is that mid-week primetime is still going to be taken over by reality shows. Good news, though not quite news at this point, is that fans of Bones and Fringe are going to get more of their favorite shows, despite the fact that both...

Chicago – When so much of your already-limited primetime schedule is devoted to reality singing competitions and animated programming, it gives a network little room to play. Fox only has a few timeslots once one takes “The X Factor”/”American Idol” and “Animation Domination” out of the equation. But play they will. “Touch” is moving to Fridays, “Glee” is moving to Thursdays, and they will launch three new shows in the Fall.
The Fall on Fox will feature only one new drama (“The Mob Doctor”) and two new comedies (“Ben and Kate” and “The Mindy Project”). Some of their most interesting programming, including the highly touted “The Following” with Kevin Bacon, won’t premiere until mid-season.
Saturdays and Sundays will look the same and “The X Factor” and “American Idol” will have the same Wednesday night two-hour and Thursday result schedule.

Fox ordered four new series last night, but its the show’s titles that had some viewers buzzing.
Mindy Kaling’s comedy about a “Bridget Jones-type” single woman has been officially untitled for months, though some reports have used the title Mindy. Unless you’re Seinfeld, it’s tough to pull off the vanity sitcom title, so trying something else is a good idea. Here’s Fox’s choice: It’s Messy.
It’s sort of like Denise Richards: It’s Complicated, but suggests clothes on the floor and possible spills. Plus, Kaling plays an Ob-gyn on the show so … yeah.

Amidst its slew of new series pickups, I’ve learned that Fox also has renewed midseason drama Touch for a second season. The news comes on the heels of a ratings rebound for Tim Kring’s series starring Kiefer Sutherland following a post-premiere slide. 20th TV and Chernin Entertainment are producing. The jury is still out on fellow freshman drama series The Finder, which had shown some signs of life on Friday, but its chances don’t look good. Update: The Finder is indeed now a goner. Alcatraz is out of the picture, especially after Fox renewed J.J. Abrams’ other bubble drama series, Fringe. It has been a great afternoon for Chernin Entertainment, whose Fox comedy pilot Ben & Kate (formerly Ben Fox Is My Manny) received a series pickup an hour and a half ago. Joining The Finder and Alcatraz on the cancellation pile are comedies Breaking In and I Hate My Teenage Daughter.

Saturday Night Live co-star Abby Elliott is heading to primetime. I’ve learned that Elliott is poised to play the lead in Dana Fox’s Fox pilot Ben Fox Is My Manny. (That’s a lot of Fox-es in one sentence.) The single-camera comedy centers on an uptight single mother (Elliott) whose aimless brother moves in to help raise her daughter (Maggie Jones). The new gig won’t interfere with Elliott’s duties on SNL this season — I hear that she will film the pilot during the late-night show’s spring hiatus. If Ben Fox goes to series, Elliott will stay with it, leaving SNL. If not, she is expected to continue on the NBC late-night sketch comedy series, which she joined in 2008 as a featured player.
