On Thursday night (December 16), an era ended and a whole new one began. A few months ago, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that World Extreme Cagefighting (an organization owned by Zuffa, the same company that runs Ufc) would be folded into the Ufc. Last night was the organization's final show, and they went out in memorable style, including big victories by Anthony Pettis and Dominick Cruz.
Wec was always unique group because it focused on lighter fighters (by the end, the only weight divisions were bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight), which often lead to fights that were much faster and more intense. Such was the case on Thursday night when Wec bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz defeated intense challenger Scott Jorgensen in a one-sided five round decision. When you first begin talking to Anthony Njokuani it's hard to believe that the well spoken man with the glasses is basically the real life equivalent of Eddy Gordo from Tekken. For those unfamiliar with the videogame, Gordo is an ass kicking pop and lock specialist and it just so happens that Anthony is a former breakdancer who can floor an opponent with a devastating head kick.
Njokuani (12-2, 1 Nc) represents the type of fighter that World Extreme Cagefighting is hoping to highlight on Saturday night when they make their Pay-Per-View debut. Prior to the main event featherweight title fight between champ Jose Aldo and Urijah Faber; Anthony will face off against Shane Roller (7-2) in a fight that, according to Njokuani, may determine the next lightweight contender in the Wec.
