Tony Silva(VII)
- Composer
Tony Silva is a composer for film and TV who specializes in music with an organic feel. Drawing from decades of study of Spanish Rumba and Latin American Boleros, Tony's compositions are infused with traditional melodies and rhythms. His music is highly emotional, with the sincerity of acoustic instruments brought into a cinematic world of sound.
"The music I create is influenced by my love of traditional musics from Spain and Latin America. Using a nylon string guitar, a South American Charango and organic percussion seasoned with a touch of orchestration, I create emotional backdrops, narrative motors, and musical catharsis based on content. The timbre of natural instruments become the central characters of an unfolding narrative in my music.
I'm from New York City, and I started as a self taught musician and became a life-long learner. I scored my first documentary (Dancing Downtown) in 1993 while earning an undergraduate degree.
Key musical mentors that helped shape my sound are Jerry Noble, from whom I studied orchestration, Electronic Music Master Charles Bestor, and, Carlos Boltes (Charango) and Guillermo Guillén (Flamenco Guitar). These teachers, years of creating scores in a studio, and my love of traditional musics have shaped my sound today."
