The Avengers Pulls Production Out of Detroit

21 February 2011 2:19 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Marvel Studios is pulling The Avengers out of Detroit after Governor Rick Snyder introduced his new budget proposal for film incentives in the state of Michigan.

The Avengers was to be partially shot in Detroit this summer, but the studio has decided to not wait around in case Rick Snyder's proposal goes through, which would eliminate the current film tax incentive in Michigan, and would instead call for $25 million in each of the next two years for future movie projects.

Other studios are following suit, either by holding off their plans to shoot in the area, or changing their locations all together and moving to a different state. The Avengers was all set to shoot in and around Detroit, but when producers couldn't get confirmation that they would still qualify for the current incentives, they quickly made other plans.
