Entertainment One Picks Up 'Miss Meadows' Starring Katie Holmes

Entertainment One Films (eOne) has acquired the distribution rights in the U.S. and Canada to Miss Meadows, starring Katie Holmes, it was announced today by Berry Meyerowitz, President of U.S. Film and Distribution. The agreement marks the first film acquisition under Meyerowitz who is integrating his Phase 4 Films into eOne. James Badge Dale, Mary Kay Place and Jean Smart also star in Miss Meadows, which was directed and written by Karen Leigh Hopkins. Eric Brenner and Rob Carliner produced. The film is slated for a theatrical release in the fall of 2014.

In Miss Meadows, Katie Holmes plays a sweet and proper elementary school teacher whose perfect manners and pretty floral dresses hide a dark secret: when she's not teaching at the local elementary school or tending to her garden, she's moonlighting as a gun-toting vigilante.

Entertainment One has acquired U.S. and Canada distribution rights for the dark comedy Miss Meadows, starring Katie Holmes. The film, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, stars Holmes as a prim, tap-dancing schoolteacher in a small town who moonlights as a vigilante killing criminals. Her work gets complicated when she becomes romantically involved with the town sheriff (James Badge Dale). Katie Holmes’ Actioner ‘Miss Meadows’ Gets U.S. Distribution

Entertainment One Films has acquired U.S. and Canada distribution rights to Katie Holmes’ action vehicle “Miss Meadows” for a fall release.

It’s the first deal made by Berry Meyerowitz since he was brought on as eOne’s president of U.S. film and distribution as part of a recent deal to integrate his Phase 4 Films into eOne.

James Badge Dale, Mary Kay Place and Jean Smart also star in “Miss Meadows,” directed and written by Karen Leigh Hopkins and produced by “Crazy Heart” producers Eric Brenner and Rob Carliner.

Holmes plays a sweet and proper elementary school teacher who moonlights as a gun-toting vigilante. The film screened at Tribeca in April.

The deal was negotiated for eOne Films by Larry Greenberg and for the filmmakers by ICM Partners. Holmes is represented by ICM Partners, Untitled Entertainment and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern.

Debra Winger, Eddie Izzard, Josh Lucas, Kevin McHale Join School Drama ‘Boychoir’

Debra Winger, Eddie IzzardJosh Lucas and Kevin McHale are joining the cast of “The Red Violin” director Francois Girard’s music-themed drama, “Boychoir,” with a trio of newcomers — Garrett Wareing, Joe West and River Alexander — set to play the film’s three most prominent student singers.

Dustin Hoffman and Kathy Bates have been previously announced to topline the original film, for which “Source Code” writer penned the script.

Set in present day New England, “Boychoir” follows a troubled 12-year-old boy (Wareing), who is enrolled in a boychoir school modeled after the real-life American Boychoir School in Princeton, N.J. He’s pitted against a demanding choir master, played by Hoffman, with Bates playing the school headmistress and Winger, a school principal.

Judy Cairo, Carol Baum and Jane Goldenring of Informant Media are producing. Exec producers are Michael A. Simpson, Eric Brenner and Ben Ripley.

Debra Winger joins Boychoir

Debra Winger, Eddie Izzard, Josh Lucas and Kevin McHale have joined Dustin Hoffman and Kathy Bates on the cast of Informant Media’s Boychoir, which commenced shooting in Connecticut this week (24).

Embankment Films handles international sales and has already closed more than 30 territories on the story of a troubled youngster who locks horns with a demanding choir master.

Newcomers Garrett Wareing, Joe West and River Alexander star as choristers following a worldwide casting call.

Francois Girard directs from a screenplay by Ben Ripley. Boychoir will also shoot in Stamford, Fairfield, New Haven and New York.

Informant Media’s Judy Cairo produces alongside Carol Baum and Jane Goldenring. Informant Media’s Michael A Simpson and Eric Brenner serve as executive producers with Ben Ripley.
