In a turn of events that can only be described as aca-obvious, Universal has firmed up plans for Pitch Perfect 3 by setting the new installment for release on July 21, 2017.
It was previously revealed that scribe Kay Cannon was returning to pen the threequel, and now it’s confirmed that she’s not the only familiar franchise player in the mix. Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson have both signed on to star as Beca Mitchell and Fat Amy (respectively) in the new entry, maintaining their status as the main faces of the series.
This was not a sure thing, due to the fact that (Pitch Perfect 2 Spoiler) Kendrick and Wilson’s characters graduated college at the end of the second installment, leaving new Bella recruit Emily (Hailee Steinfeld) to recruit a new generation of a cappella performers. How they’ll be involved this time is being kept under wraps. (End »

The original film was adapted from Mickey Rapkin’s book “Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory.” The sequel was directed and produced by Elizabeth Banks and starred Kendrick, Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, Ester Dean, Hana Mae Lee, Alexis Knapp and Banks. »

Following a blockbuster weekend where Pitch Perfect 2 beat out Mad Max: Fury Road and topped the Us box office with $70.3 million (and around $108 million worldwide), talk has of course turned to a sequel. In an interview with Collider, director Elizabeth Banks was very open about the idea of Pitch Perfect 3, so long as the second movie performs well.
“It would be disingenuous to say that no one’s talking about a Pitch Perfect 3,” she said.”We are really focused on getting as many butts in seats for this one. If fans embrace it, we are going to seriously think about what the continuing journey would look like, but we don’t know what that is yet. I don’t know what the story of the third one is yet. So I can’t say… but I’m excited to delve in and figure it out.”

Universal Pictures released their new comedy flick, "Pitch Perfect 2," into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out and thought it was fantastic, serving up even more great performances, laughs and more. It stars: Brittany Snow, Anna Kendrick, Katey Sagal, Anna Camp, Rebel Wilson, Alexis Knapp, Adam DeVine, Hailee Steinfeld, Ester Dean, Kelley Jakle, and Hana Mae Lee. In the new flick, the plot reveals that Beca (Anna Kendrick) has led the Barden Bellas to three more Acapella college championships, bumping up the timeline to Beca's senior year. They're a really hot group now, performing for various other events. However, they end up getting into major trouble when Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) has a major wardrobe malfunction that ends with her showing her vagina to the whole world, including the President Of The United States. From there, the Bellas end up getting suspended from all competitions and recruiting activities. »

Stars: Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Anna Camp, Alexis Knapp, Ben Platt, Skylar Astin, Ester Dean, Hana Mae Lee, Adam Devine, Katey Sagal, Ben Platt, Chrissie Fit, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Flula Borg, John Michael Higgins | Written by Kay Cannon | Directed by Elizabeth Banks
Given the fact that the first film was such a success with audiences across the globe, in particular inspiring people across the world to recreate Anna Kendrick’s cups song on post the videos on YouTube, it’s not surprising that a sequel to Pitch Perfect was in order. But where to take the story? After all the first film was – if we’re honest – little more than a cash-in on the Glee/mash-up craze of the time. And on top of that the first movie had a finite ending as the Barden Bellas found success in the A Capella National Championships… So there »

A few years ago, a musical comedy of sorts came almost out of nowhere to become a hit. It was Pitch Perfect, a film that managed to defy minimal expectations and forge not just a hit single (Cups), but also now a movie franchise. Yes, this weekend Pitch Perfect 2 hits theaters, riding high on fan excitement after the last one made over $100 million worldwide on a budget of merely $17 million. This time around, the now franchise has loftier goals, but if the early buzz is to be believed (I see it later on tonight), this one is just as good, if not better. If so, we’ll have the rare female-centric franchise out there to combat the many testosterone laced ones already in the marketplace. In case you didn’t see the first one, this is a music-filled comedy about The Bellas, the all-girls singing group at Barden University. »
