The female-led 21 Jump Street spinoff film just took a major step forward, as not only has 22 Jump Street co-writer Rodney Rothman signed on to pen the script for the project, but he will also likely end up directing the Sony Pictures film as well.
Deadline broke the news yesterday, detailing in their report that Rothman has “an eye toward directing,” meaning that chances are he’ll end up helming the picture. He recently turned in the “latest draft of the script,” which Broad City scribes Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs and Bob’s Burgers producers Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux have all had a hand in. Neal Moritz, best known for his work on the Fast & Furious series, will produce.
Details on the project are currently scarce, but the plot will follow two female cops who go undercover at a school, much like 21 Jump Street (both the film and 1987 TV »

While the bizarro 21 Jump Street/Men In Black collaboration Mib 23 has apparently been abandoned on the weird movie mash-up idea launching pad, another Jump Street spin-off is moving steadily ahead. Deadline reports that the untitled, women-led Jump Street movie that was announced last year is in the process of acquiring a director, with 22 Jump Street writer Rodney Rothman in talks to helm the film.
Rothman’s other writing credits include Grudge Match and Late Show With David Letterman; if he takes this new project, he’ll be making his directorial debut. The new Jump Street movie also recently acquired a well-stocked writing team, with Bob’s Burgers writers Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux, and Broad City’s Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs, all having been tapped to work on the script. There’s no word yet on which actresses will star in the film, or what sorts ...

Sony Pictures has tapped 22 Jump Street writer Rodney Rothman to write and direct the studio's currently untitled all-female spin-off of their Jump Street franchise. We first reported on this project back in April 2015, when Broad City writers Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs were brought on to write the screenplay. Now the studio has brought on Rodney Rothman to not only work on the script, but also make his feature directorial debut.
Deadline reports that Rodney Rothman also recently turned in a draft of another spin-off, which brings the Jump Street and Men in Black franchises together. Back in August, Jump Street star Jonah Hill said that the crossover was "impossible," stating that he doubts that movie will get made. However, today's report states that the Jump Street/Men in Black crossover is actually still in development. Insiders claim that there will also be male characters involved in this story, »
While Schmidt and Jenko are off battling aliens in MiB 23, some of their old Jump Street colleagues will be stepping up into a spotlight of their own. Last year, we got word Sony was planning a Jump Street spinoff that’d center on a couple of female officers. Broad City scribes Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs were brought on […]

If you’re wondering why Hollywood often has multiple variations of a project in development, here’s why — when one gets stalled, you can just pivot to another. And that’s just Sony are doing in their efforts to keep the “21 Jump Street” brand going.
For a while now, we’ve known that the studio has been chasing two ideas: a female driven spinoff, penned by “Broad City” writers Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs, and an ambitious franchise crossover with “Men In Black.” Over the summer, Jonah Hill suggested the latter was in trouble, saying “it’s too complicated” and “it’s almost become what we were making fun of and it’s hard to maintain that joke when it’s so high stakes.”And so, everyone is shifting gears.

It’s a new and R-rated comedy from writer-director Lucia Aniello, who penned the script of a wild bachelorette weekend that goes off the rails – as these cinematic bashes often tend to – alongside Paul W. Downs. Downs happens to be part of the cast, too, which is an ensemble that has now made room for both Demi Moore and Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell in supporting roles.
Deadline broke news of the two-fold casting coup during the week, confirming that Moore and Burrell will be rubbing shoulders with Scarlett Johansson, Ghostbusters star Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer and Zoe Kravitz. They’ll anchor Rock That Body as five close friends bound for Miami for a bachelorette weekend, but the body of a »

“Rock That Body” follows a group of five friends who rent a beach house in Miami for a wild bachelorette party that goes off the rails. The film is directed by Lucia Aniello from a script she wrote with her writing partner Paul W. Downs.
The script for “Rock That Body” appeared on the Black List in 2015. Sony picked up the project last year in an aggressive bidding war. Both Aniello and Downs will produce the film through their Paulilu banner. Matt Tolmach and Dave Becky will also produce.

Demi Moore is set to star—and perhaps party—alongside the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Ilana Glazer, and Kate McKinnon in the comedy Rock That Body. The movie from Glazer‘s Broad City collaborators Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello is about a bachelorette event that goes bad when a male stripper ends ups dead. Details of Moore’s role aren’t available yet, but we’d like to imagine she’s playing the hot older woman who gives the young ones sage advice about topics like sex and the appropriate manner in which to hide dead bodies.
The cast also includes Zoe Kravitz, Jillian Bell, and Downs, just to add a little bit of testosterone, not that it’s at all necessary. Moore was recently seen in Wild Oats, which aired on Lifetime and also featured Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange.

Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer and Zoe Kravitz also are starring in the pic, which follows five friends who rent a beach house in Miami for a wild bachelorette weekend that doesn't quite go as planned. Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello, who work with Glazer on the cult favorite comedy television series Broad City, co-wrote the film. Downs also will star, with Aniello directing. Scarlett Johansson is certainly more well-known for being an action star than anything else, but she's set to lead the cast of some very funny women soon for Sony in Rock That Body. Besides Johansson, it boasts Ghostbusters' Kate McKinnon, Broad City's Ilana Glazer, and Workaholics's Jillian Bell. And we've just found out they'll be going up against the Transformers. The previously named Move That Body is now Rock That Body and Broad City's Lucia Aniello is set to direct with a script by Aniello and Paul W. Downs (who will also be in the film). The screenplay was on the 2015 Black List and feels like a little bit The Hangover and a little bit Weekend at Bernie's if you ask me. Deadline writes, "The raunchy comedy follows a group of friends whose wild bachelorette party goes so far off the rails, that a male stripper turns up dead. »

Television is hooked on time travel. At this spring’s TV upfronts, every major network except CBS announced that it will air a show that involves time travel during the 2016-17 television season.
NBC will debut “Timeless,” a drama about a group of people who go back in time to alter history by stopping the Hindenburg disaster. Fox has set a midseason premiere for the time-travel comedy “Making History,” executive produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, co-starring Adam Pally and Leighton Meester.
ABC will air “Time After Time,” the television adaptation of a book that speculates over what would have happened had H.G. Wells — who is widely credited for popularizing the idea of time travel with his 1895 novel “The Time Machine” — actually had the ability to travel through time. And The CW has “Frequency,” an adaptation of the 2000 thriller about a father and son communicating across time with this use of a ham radio, »

Previously titled Move That Body, the upcoming R-rated comedy Rock That Body, starring Scarlett Johansson, has now expanded its cast list ahead of an August production start. Zoe Kravitz had already joined Johansson on the project, and the two actresses will now appear alongside Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live), Jillian Bell (Workaholics) and Ilana Glazer (Broad City).
Details on the plot of the film are few and far between, beyond the simplest of plot outlines: five friends rent a Miami beach house for a bachelorette party and accidentally kill a male stripper. The only man currently listed in the cast is co-writer Paul W. Downs, so it could well be that he will be the one performing for the women, with fatal consequences. Downs wrote the script with Lucia Aniello, who will also direct – and the two are known for their collaboration on Broad City.
While the concept seems straightforward, »
