[on using a pseudonym]: My research concerned real people and events. When the decision was made to write a novel, there were aspects I considered might endanger sources and to a lesser degree myself. A pseudonym won't protect anyone against a concerted effort, but it at least offers limited protection.
The name Alex Dryden is a pseudonym he uses to protect his true identity, as well as the identity of his sources. Dryden spent more than a decade working as a freelance investigative journalist inside Vladimir Putin's Russia. During that time, more than 60 journalists were murdered in Russia.
