Just last week, we brought you the news when it was reported that 20th Century Fox was looking to hire Joe Carnahan (The Grey) to helm their forthcoming Daredevil reboot, which is being penned by David James Kelly, who is reportedly adapting Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s Born Again storyline for the film.

Within that story, there was also a rumor about Marvel Studios and Fox working on  a trade-off, which would give Fox more time to make Daredevil (because the studio’s rights expire in October) in exchange for returning some of it’s character’s movie rights back to Marvel. Characters reportedly being considered were Galactus and the Silver Surfer from the Fantastic Four universe.

Then, we brought you an update to that report that stated that the rumored talks talks between the studios were about no such thing, and Fox was actually “lukewarm” on the prospect »

Last month, we brought you the news when director David Slade exited the director’s chair on 20th Century Fox‘s forthcoming reboot of Daredevil, being penned by David James Kelly, who is reportedly adapting Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s comic storyline Born Again for the film.

Now, Variety reports that the studio is looking to hire Joe Carnahan (The Grey) to helm the project, and seems to be in a hurry to get filming underway, as the studio’s rights to the character expire on October 10th of this year and revert back to Marvel if they aren’t in production.

Twilight's David Slade denies Josh Hartnett up for his new Daredevil film, says not at casting stage yet

22 June 2012 7:02 AM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Even without Daredevil's super-enhanced senses, it's reasonable to conclude that 20th Century Fox's planned reboot of the franchise is a slow-developing idea, rather like Fantastic Four and Deadpool.

That's unless we start to hear any fresh updates during San Diego Comic-Con or as part of the press interviews for other Fox releases.

David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, 30 Days of Night, Hard Candy) is the man tasked with directing the reboot of Marvel's blind lawyer turned crimefighter.

And he caused a stir on Twitter last week when he appeared to confirm Josh Hartnett was set to star as the new Daredevil.

A Twitter follower had suggested that "I hope David Slade gets back to the Daredevil stuff soon and I hope maybe Josh Hartnett could finally get a Marvel role" and Slade responded with "You and me both."

Josh Hartnett May Be David Slade’s Daredevil

18 June 2012 11:14 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

A Twitter exchange between David Slade and a fan has led to speculation as to who could end up playing Daredevil in his upcoming reboot. Empire was able to take a screenshot of the conversation and you can view it below.

It’s more than likely that Slade was talking about the first part of the tweet as the director has been taking on other projects, leading fans to wonder if everything was going well with the movie. What we do know about it though is that it will be based on the Born Again storyline by Frank Miller and that David James Kelly is working on the screenplay.

That being said, Josh Hartnett and David Slade have worked together previously on 30 Days Of Night, which could imply that Slade wants to work with him again on Daredevil. Or, he could’ve simply agreed with the thought that Hartnett should »

David Slade to Direct Psychological Wilderness Thriller Villain

8 May 2012 1:07 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Though 30 Days of Night director David Slade is still developing a reboot of Daredevil, it looks like he may be making a different project before he tackles the superhero pic. Slade will direct the psychological thriller Villain for Wayfare Entertainment.  The story centers on “two brothers as they confront their dark past in an unforgiving wilderness.”  Production is set to take place in Alaska and producers are currently casting the two leads.  Hit the jump for more on the project and Slade's upcoming directorial projects, as well as the full press release regarding Villain. Villain actually makes one of two wilderness thrillers currently in development, as Billy Bob Thornton, Thomas Jane, and James Marsden star in the grizzly bear thriller Red Machine.  Josh Zetumer, who penned the RoboCop remake, wrote the script for Villain, and it’s described as a “gritty, dark thriller.” I’d certainly love to see Slade »

The David Slade Directed Daredevil Reboot Has a New Writer

30 April 2012 1:00 PM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

About two years ago, we told you that 20th Century Fox was looking to develop a reboot of Daredevil, and David Scarpa (The Last Castle, The Day the Earth Stood Still) was hired to pen the script. About a year after that, the studio hired director David Slade (Awake, Hannibal) to helm the reboot.

When Slade was brought on board, Scarpa’s previous script was jettisoned, and the studio and director were seeking seeking a writer to work closely with Slade. The following summer, Brad Caleb Kane (Fringe) was brought on to pen an adaptation of Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s comic storyline Born Again for the film.

Now, Deadline reports that David James Kelly has been brought on board to do yet another rewrite of the Born Again adaptation, which sees The Kingpin uncovering the superhero’s secret identity, and turning Matt Murdoch’s life upside down.

Fox hires yet another writer to work on its Daredevil reboot

30 April 2012 11:04 AM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Determined not to let Marvel own all the Marvel movies just because it created the characters or whatever, Fox is still pushing forward with X-Men sequels and even possible New Mutants spinoffs, and long-planned reboots for Fantastic Four and Daredevil, despite the lattermost 2003 Ben Affleck version marking the over-saturation point for comic-book movies for a while. Nevertheless, Fox is still so determined to try again and/or reprise that mutually assured destruction that it's hired yet another writer to draft its Daredevil reboot: David James Kelly, who will take over a project that's already passed through David »

'Daredevil' Reboot Hires New Writer

30 April 2012 10:40 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Well, it's not a casting announcement, but it's a start!

Fox's planned "Daredevil" reboot has slowed down a bit in recent months, with director David Slade going so far as to publicly state that "there is no update" on the project just yet. Well, now there is an update: according to Deadline, writer David James Kelly has been hired to take another pass at the "Daredevil" script.

It's long been reported that Slade's "Daredevil" reboot would take much of its cues from Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's "Born Again" story arc, wherein The Kingpin learns Daredevil's true identity and uses that information to cut to Matt Murdock's core. As it stands, that story seems in place, even with Kelly's impending rewrite.

Between the announcement of Kelly's hiring and Tom Rothman's recent confirmation that Josh Trank is developing "Fantastic Four" for the studio, it appears that Fox is going »

David James Kelly To Re-Write Daredevil Reboot

30 April 2012 2:10 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Deadline are reporting that 20th Century Fox’s ‘Daredevil’ reboot, which is to be directed by David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, 30 Days Of Night, Hard Candy) has found itself a new writer in the form of David James Kelly.

He will re-write the original script from Fringe writer Brad Caleb Kane which director Slade last year called “amazing”. So hopefully the re-write is to bring down the budget or tighten the dialogue or something as it sounded like they had a sold story worked on.

The untitled reboot is supposedly going to follow the “Born Again” run of Daredevil comics which ran from issue #227-233, written by Frank Miller and illustrated by David Mazzucchelli. In this classic story arc Daredevil falls to insanity and poverty at the hands of the Kingpin, who after learning of Daredevil’s secret identity sets out on a path of destruction to ruin Matt Murdock’s life – slowly, »

And the man chosen to write the Daredevil reboot is...

... who? Let me explain: David James Kelly is the guy who as been hired to do a new draft of the Daredevil reboot, and while he does indeed have representation his only IMDb credit thus far is that of being a post-production assistant on Sunshine Cleaning.  Which to be fair tells us nothing about his writing ability, as everyone trying to make it in Hollywood often has to work a job or two or six that has little to do with their main talents ("Party Down" »

Fresh rewrite ordered for the Daredevil reboot

29 April 2012 10:41 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

The new Daredevil movie still seems quite a way away, as a fresh writer is brought in to take a stab at the script...

There had been rumblings over the past week or two that all was not well with the script for the planned reboot of Daredevil. And those rumblings may have been proven to be true.

The film, which is being developed by 20th Century Fox under the guidance of director David Slade, is seemingly getting a rewrite now, with the news that David James Kelly has been hired to take a fresh stab at the project.

According to Deadline, the planned basis for the storyline will be the Born Again arc, originally penned by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. In that arc, Matt Murdoch's secret and double life is uncovered by The Kingpin, and thus used against him.

There's no word yet on a timescale for the movie, »

Daredevil Reboot Being Written Again

Remember when Ben Affleck was Daredevil, the super-blind, super-reddish superhero? (No? It was only in 2003. But still no?) Okay, cool. There's a reboot coming, and two years after it found its writer, it has found its re-writer in David James Kelly, who hails straight from the storied post-production department of Amy Adams's Sunshine Cleaning (?). David Slade (30 Days of Night, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) has been tapped to direct, and Guy Pearce is not interested. »

Daredevil Will Be Written Again

29 April 2012 5:08 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Fox has been quietly developing a new Daredevil film for a couple of years now. 30 Days Of Night and Twilight: Eclipse director David Slade has been attached since last spring, and there have been screenplays by David Scarpa (The Day The Earth Stood Still) and Brad Caleb Kane (Brooklyn's Finest). Now though, there's word of yet another draft, this time by David James Kelly. The plan is still to adapt the Frank Miller saga Born Again, first published in Daredevil issues 227-233, in 1986. The story sees Matt Murdock outed as Daredevil by his former secretary Karen Page. She has, shall we say, fallen on hard times since leaving the Nelson & Murdock law firm, and sells the info for a shot of heroin. It eventually reaches crime boss The Kingpin, who proceeds to creatively dismantle Murdock's life and send supervillain Nuke into Murdock's stomping ground of New York's Hell's Kitchen. In the comic, »

‘Daredevil’ Reboot Getting a Rewrite

29 April 2012 9:02 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Little progress has been made on 20th Century Fox’s Daredevil reboot since David Slade was brought aboard to helm the project – so little that the 30 Days of Night and Eclipse filmmaker has found time to direct an episode on Breaking Bad and the pilot for Awake, while also preparing to oversee the pilot for Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal series.

However, the Daredevil reboot’s engine looks to start puttering once again, now that Fox has recruited a little-known writer in the form of David James Kelly, to rework the screenplay for the Marvel comic book movie project.

Deadline has the scoop on Kelly being hired on to revamp the current script draft for the Daredevil reboot, penned by Brad Caleb Kane (a former co-showrunner and writer for Fringe). Slade, as it were, ...

Daredevil Remake Gets New Writer and Storyline

Back in 2010, 20th Century Fox hired David Scarpa (The Day The Earth Stood Still, The Last Castle) to write the script for the studio's "Daredevil" remake. A year later, David Slade (30 Days of Night) was on board to direct. Since then, Slade updated his Twitter account with news that the film is moving forward. But a few days ago, he revealed that his focus has shifted to the upcoming "Hannibal" TV series, hinting that "Daredevil" may be dead. Then just recently, Fox CEO Tom Rothman confirmed that development is still moving forward. And now comes word that the studio has hired David James Kelly to re-write the script. The idea is to adapt Frank Miller's "Born Again" storyline, which ran in "Daredevil" #227-233 in 1986 and involves an intense personal attack on Matt Murdock's friends and family following Wilson Fisk (aka The Kingpin) learning his true identity. »

David Slade’s Daredevil Gets Another Writer

Last we heard on the topic of “30 Days of Night” director David Slade’s impending reboot of Fox’s “Daredevil”, a writer had turned in a script. Apparently it wasn’t a very good script, or the studio wasn’t very enamored with it, because Fox has since hired another writer to take yet another crack at the reboot. Scribe David James Kelly has been hired to rewrite a previous script by Brad Caleb Kane (“Fringe”), with the idea still being an adaptation of the Frank Miller/David Mazzucchelli “Born Again” story arc in the “Daredevil” comic book from the ’80s. In “Born Again”, Daredevil’s archnemesis, the Kingpin finally uncovers the superhero’s civilian alter ego, crusading (and blind) attorney Matt Murdock. New Writer Hired For David Slade's Daredevil Reboot

It has taken a little while for the Daredevil reboot to get going. First announced over a year ago, the project hired director David Slade to helm and then, a few months later, brought Fringe writer Brad Caleb Kane on-board to write the script. Apparently what has held the project in development is the script, and we know that now because 20th Century Fox has just brought on a writer to replace Kane. Deadline says that nearly five months after Kane was hired, the studio has now gotten David James Kelly to do a rewrite of Daredevil. The movie will actually be the first writing credit for Kelly, whose only previous work in the film industry includes being a post-production assistant on the 2008 indie dramedy Sunshine Cleaning. There have been reports that the new story will follow the "Born Again" arc created by Frank Miller/David Mazzucchelli in which the »
