Smosh’s Updated Mobile App Includes Curated Videos From Break

26 February 2014 9:39 AM, PST | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

The Smosh YouTube channel's iPhone app has received an update, and among other changes, it now features an assist from Break. The mobile home of comedy duo Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla now includes a curated selection of videos from Break.com, a byproduct of the merger between Alloy Digital and Break Media. Last October, Alloy Digital (the online video network that counts Smosh as its most prominent YouTube partner) and Break Media merged to form Defy Media, a new online video company aimed at the young YouTube demographic. The deal made sense because Alloy and Break target the same 12-34 age group, and Break.com's collection of Ugc videos do indeed strike the same audience as Smosh's boisterous comedy skits. The revamped app also includes easy access to videos across the Smosh network, which includes gaming channel Smosh Games and animation hub Shut Up! Cartoons

How Does A Web Series Jump to TV?

25 February 2014 10:41 AM, PST | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Five years ago, making a web series to get on traditional television was a fool's game. The few web series producers to secure development deals with networks -- from "We Need Girlfriends," "Quarterlife," "Private High School" and "The College Humor Show" -- either never made it to air or didn't last long when they did. But today many more web series have been optioned for TV and made it onto television. Some have even been successful, making it to a second season -- like Comedy Central series "Broad City," which was renewed last night. More series could be coming soon. In the past year hardworking producers like Issa Rae, Ray William Johnson, Benny and Rafi Fine, Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox, Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenefeld and have all signed development deals. Now that web production is an established route on the long, hard path to a television series, it's »
