25 July 2016 2:51 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The dust has settled from Comic-Con 2016, and while Warner Bros. and Marvel’s film divisions wowed the crowd with sneak peeks at the likes of “Wonder Woman,” “Justice League,” “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” the weekend was dominated by TV, with a cavalcade of shows dropping major news (like announcing the final seasons of “Teen Wolf,” “The Vampire Diaries” and “Bates Motel”) and epic trailers. Variety was on the ground in San Diego to tally up the biggest hits and most disappointing misses from the convention.

Hit: “The Walking Dead

Fans may have been outraged by the cliffhanger ending that closed Season 6 — which saw Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan beat one of the show’s main characters to death, but chose to hide who the victim was — but that didn’t stop the show from receiving an ecstatic response at Comic-Con. Moderator Chris Hardwick attempted to do some damage control over the criticisms of the finale, but »

It’s a long wait until HBO’s Game of Thrones returns — a full 10 months, at least — so fans descended on San Diego Comic-Con in droves Friday to get their Westeros fix from the cast and crew. Eva Green also deserved a nomination for her work in ‘Penny Dreadful,’” he added. “Of course, every year has omissions. And right now it is harder than it has ever been. So many great, great shows to watch.”

Naughty Dog Dev Presents Status Report On The Last Of Us And Uncharted Movies

15 July 2016 1:45 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Duncan JonesWarcraft: The Beginning and Assassin’s Creed not only stand tall as two of the biggest releases of 2016, but they’re also among the most high-profile video game adaptations in film history, sparking a resurgence in the game-to-movies practice that has already birthed renditions of Splinter Cell and the Alicia Vikander-fronted Tomb Raider.

Beyond that, though, two video game adaptations that continue to simmer on the brink of development can be traced back to developer Naughty Dog. Held up as cinematic masterpieces, over the years there has been mooted talk of both Uncharted and The Last of Us gracing the silver screen, and despite both projects displaying early signs of promise – Mark Wahlberg was attached to the former; Game of Thrones starlet Maisie Williams circled the latter – both films have effectively been placed on ice.

Don’t expect that to change anytime soon, either, after Naughty Dog »

Primetime Emmy Awards Target Game Of Thrones

14 July 2016 12:22 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The Emmy nods have hit the Internet, and there are a few surprises among these stellar examples of Primetime TV. Game of Thrones leads the pack with a whopping 23 nominations, which probably will not surprise anyone who has tuned in to the show this season. It’s certainly one of the better programs on TV right now, and this season has been particularly stellar.

More surprising – and, in some ways, more deserved – are several nods to Mr. Robot, including an Outstanding Drama and Lead Actor In A Drama for Rami Malek. Christian Slater gets nothing, despite his Golden Globe win, but I guess we can’t have everything. While Malek has some serious competition in his category, including Hollywood heavyweights Liev Schrieber and Kevin Spacey, here’s hoping that he takes home the prize. He certainly deserves it.
