With principal photography completed back in March and the film slated to released in February of 2018, it makes sense that a trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising would be on the way. Alas, it has not dropped yet and even star John Boyega even took to social media to inquire why.

You got Star Wars teaser, Detroit trailer but where's Pacific Rim at ?

John Boyega (@JohnBoyega) June 19, 2017

This prompted Steven DeKnight (taking over directorial duties from Guillermo del Toro who has The Shape of Water releasing this year) to reply with a tweet of his own:

Working on it! https://t.co/5eHMtjoQdA

Charlie Hunnam explains why he’s not in Pacific Rim: Uprising

16 April 2017 11:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

While Pacific Rim: Uprising will see the return of a number of familiar faces from the 2013 sci-fi blockbuster, one person who is sitting out the sequel is Charlie Hunnam, and during an interview with Den of Geek to promote his new film The Lost City of Z, the British actor has revealed why he won’t be back as Raleigh Becket.

“There was a huge scheduling conflict, I was already really, really invested in doing Papillion.,” said Hunnam. “What happened was Legendary was sold to Wanda, which is the big Chinese corporation, and Pacific Rim, although it underperformed in other territories in the world, was an enormous success in China, all of a sudden, it became their primary focus to make this and they wanted to do it very, very rapidly… I think their schedule subsequently changed, and I might have been able to do both, but at that time, »

Guillermo del Toro on why he didn’t return for Pacific Rim: Uprising

10 April 2017 2:59 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Pacific Rim released in 2013 to largely positive reviews, and while the box-office was disappointing for a summer blockbuster, many fans have been clamoring for a sequel ever since. On and off, over the years, we have heard ideas being thrown around about sequels until we finally got an official announcement in the form of Pacific Rim: Uprising.

All was well until it was announced that Guillermo del Toro wouldn’t be returning to the director’s chair (a position subsequently filled by Steven S. DeKnight). Recently, in an interview with Collider, Del Toro opened up about what made him decide to pass the torch:

“The timing started to suck. I had this little movie that I wanted to do—The Shape of Water—very, very much. At one point it was Justice League Dark or Pacific Rim, I said, ‘Let’s go to Pacific Rim.’ The reality is they said, »

Charlie Day is currently doing interview rounds for the upcoming R-rated comedy Fist Fight set for release in the States this Friday, and naturally the actor is being lobbed questions pertaining to his involvement in the much anticipated sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising.

Chatting with Collider regarding the sequel’s new director Steven DeKnight (Daredevil) and its fresh cast, Day said: “I can’t say too much, obviously, other than I think Steve DeKnight is taking it in his own direction, as he has to. … I think with John Boyega and the rest of that cast, that young cast that they filled out, it’s going to be interesting to follow this new, young group of people – and then Burn Gorman and I, who are obviously back sort of tethering it to the world of the first movie. I’m excited, and look, I think it’s going to be fun »

Daredevil composer John Paesano signs on to Pacific Rim: Uprising

18 January 2017 2:35 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

John Paesano, the composer responsible for bringing music to Hell’s Kitchen on Netflix’s Daredevil, is set to provide the score for Legendary Pictures’ Pacific Rim: Uprising, the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim.

It looks like we may be seeing a few familiar faces in Pacific Rim: Uprising, with cinematographer Dan Mindel sharing an image to Instagram which features a cast list that includes several names from the Guillermo del Toro-directed first movie, along with one potential newcomer to the franchise…

The cast list includes Rinko Kikuchi (Mako Mori), Charlie Day (Dr. Newton Geiszler) and Burn Gorman (Dr. Hermann Gottlieb). It also seemingly reveals that Karl Urban has joined the sequel, although Urban has since denied his involvement on Twitter:

Hey Peter ,

No , I'm not part of this project ,

Look forward to seeing it though.

Mindel has since deleted the post, which would seem to suggest it’s genuine…
