‘Yoga Hosers’ Review: The Scariest Thing About Kevin Smith’s Bizarre Comedy Horror Is That He Thinks Teenage Girls Will Like It

31 August 2016 10:00 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

When the mysterious Canadian Nazi Andronicus Arcane (Ralph Garman) reveals the stomach-churning creature he has stitched together from the bodies of his murder victims during the dramatic climax of “Yoga Hosers,” he orders the monster to murder all “haters and critics.” With that in mind, this critic will proceed with caution.

“Honestly, ‘Yoga Hosers’ is the movie I wanted to see back when I was a 12 year old girl,” director Kevin Smith told audiences before a recent screening of the feature. Similarly, he opined, “’Clerks’ was just a desperate act of somebody who wanted to see the movie ‘Clerks.’” Making movies for Kevin Smith is what Kevin Smith does best, and for many years it worked. Early critical successes “Clerks” and “Chasing Amy” captured the folly of youth from Smith »

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare sending zombies back to the 1980s

Matthew Byrd Aug 17, 2016

Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare is heading back to the 1980s - and we've got the new trailer here...

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon proved that there is no popular first-person shooter that wouldn't benefit from implementing a heavy dose of 1980s ridiculousness into the gameplay formula, and now, Call of Duty will take its own stab at that particular recipe as Infinity Ward has announced that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's zombie mode will take players back to that fabled time in popular culture in order to do battle with the undead.

The must-see reveal trailer can be found below:

Rather than match the theme of Infinite Warfare by having fans do battle with zombies in space again such as we saw in one of Black Ops zombie maps, Infinity Ward designed the upcoming Zombies In Spaceland to take you and your team of decade appropriate »

Mike Birbiglia Says ‘Don’t Think Twice’ is ‘More Like Life’ Than a Movie

21 July 2016 9:56 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

“I’ll be the sixth lead in the indie film and that’s ok,” joked comedian Chris Gethard Wednesday night at the Sunshine Landmark Cinema for the New York premiere of “Don’t Think Twice.”

“It’s easier for [photographers] to take pictures of me until Keegan[-Michael Key] gets here,” Gethard laughed – playing off the theme of the film, which follows a New York City improv troupe. When one member gets his big break, they begin to realize they can’t all make it in the business.

While the movie surrounds comedians played by Key, Gillian Jacobs, Kate Micucci, Tami Sagher, and Mike Birbiglia, producer Miranda Bailey said the film is a “drama about comedy.”

“It’s more about friendship and life and it’s about an experience. What does success do to friendships and jealousy? It explores those kinds of things in a really funny way.”

Put up your space hand if you like any of these, J.J. Abrams. “Saturday Night Live” just released bonus footage from a recent “Star Wars” chemistry test sketch, which included tryouts from the real Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Matthew McConaughey, Jon Hamm and Emma Stone. There were also plenty of impressions, courtesy of the “SNL” cast. Some of the highlights include Janelle Monae (Sasheer Zamata) trying to dance somberly while surrounded by death, Kyle Mooney‘s temperamental Shia Labeouf, and Javier Bardem (Beck Bennett) trying his best to have sex with Stone. Saturday Night Live may be wrapped for the season, but new footage will help ease the wait for season 42 - not to mention the next Star Wars film. In a bonus clip, Emma Stone, Matthew McConaughey and Jon Hamm do their best to land spots in The Force Awakens. However, they have some competition from SNL celebrity impersonators and actual Star Wars actors John Boyega and Daisy Ridley.Ridley almost flubbed her audition when Janelle Monáe, played by cast member Sasheer Zamata, turned their scene into a dance party. Stone probably lost the role because of her screen test with »

Saturday Night Live Review: Brie Larson Hosts

8 May 2016 3:10 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Tonight’s host is Brie Larson: indie film actress, recent Oscar winner, and former singer of pop punk album Finally Out of P.E, whose single She Said featured pretty heavily on the rotation of my first ever square iPod nano. Larson brought a solid enthusiasm to an episode that featured a heavier amount of good sketches than bad, proving that maybe long hiatuses are good for this show, since their cast and crew, if legend is to be believed, subsist on very little sleep and very much junk food. Glad those guys got some rest, and brought some laughs to this enjoyable Mother’s Day episode.   Cold Open: Church Chat: Dana Carvey’s Church Chat Lady returns to interview Ted Cruz and Donald Trump with her signature judgy passive aggression. Saturday Night Live Review: Ariana Grande Hosts

13 March 2016 5:01 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Ariana Grande is shiny haired and beautiful and also fully believes in ghosts and one time licked a donut in a display case, and honestly, I’m kind of a fan of her whole weird vibe. Additionally, I enjoy how she has a tiny speaking voice and a huge singing voice, like Sister Mary Robert from Sister Act. And although tonight’s sketches were a little hit or miss, Ariana handled her hosting/musical guest double duty fairly well. Let’s dig in!   Cold Open: CNN reporter Jake Tapper cuts between coverage of Donald Trump’s rally with Ben Carson and an interview with Bernie Sanders. Listen, I was going to miss Jay Pharaoh’s Dr. Ben Carson impersonation as much as the next SNL reviewer, but I would have rather never seen him again than watch another former Republican candidate throw his support behind this orange monster who won’t go away. »

SNL: Shouldn't the Current Cast Play Sanders, Trump and Palin? Plus: Where's Jay Pharoah's Obama?

With Larry David set to host Saturday Night Live this weekend, viewers are all but guaranteed to see a sketch — maybe even two or three of ’em — featuring his beloved take on Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

While that thought probably makes you happier than Rosie O’Donnell fantasizing about a Donald Trump concession speech, allow me for a moment to sound as crusty and cantankerous as David’s version of the Vermont senator.

Saturday Night Live Recap: Ronda Rousey Hosts

24 January 2016 4:16 AM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Our host for tonight is Ronda Rousey, who has won a lot of medals and championships for being Very, Very Strong. Like, seriously. She could knock you out in a second. It is a little terrifying, but also inspiring in a “You go, girl” kind of way. And now she’s got a burgeoning acting career, with roles in The Expendables 3, Furious 7, and Entourage 1 and God Willing Only. She will make her comedy debut in the upcoming Do Nothing Bitches, based on a script by Sisters writer Paula Pell in which Rousey plays a bootcamp instructor putting suburban housewives, one of which is played by Tina Fey, in their place. Tonight seemed to be Rousey’s chance to prove her comedy chops, but she honestly didn’t get much of a chance-- she only truly starred in one sketch, and made minimal to no appearances in all of the others. »
