Born with dilated cardiomyopathy and had open heart surgery at 5 to repair a mitral valve. Her early years of health struggles and mature demeanor at a young age prompted Mackinlee to begin speaking at events and raising money and awareness for Children's Medical Center and Children's Miracle Network, which she continues to be very active in to this day.
