Mini Bio (1)
Lead singer and lyricist Josh Ramsay grew up in a musical family, with his Mom being a singing teacher and his Dad owning a recording studio. Ramsay also shared the love of music and started a solo career at the age of 14. He later needed a supporting band and managed to recruit high school friend Matt Webb and local musicians Morgan Hempsted and Steve Marsh. Together they formed a band named Ramsay Fiction.
After disbanding Ramsay Fiction, Ramsay and Webb searched for new bandmates. Ramsay found drummer Ian Casselman's wanted ad in the Georgia Straight, and after calling and hearing Casselman's Mandarin-to-English translated voicemail tape, Ramsay knew he found a drummer. Through Casselman they found Mike Ayley as bassist. Casselman and Ayley had previously played in a band together. The foursome chose the name Marianas Trench for their band, for they found that they could not find a band name that has not already been chosen, but the band never gives the real reason the name was chosen. After much perseverence they were signed under 604 Records, owned by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback, and Jonathan Simkin.
The band presented an award during the 2007 MMVA's. They made an appearance on the TV show Kyle XY and their song "Alibis" from their debut album Fix Me, was put on the soundtrack. The video for Shake Tramp peaked on #1 on the Much Music Countdown, and #1 on the iTunes Canada Digital Download. It was later nominated for Video of the Year at the Juno Awards.
