Have you noticed that a lot of science-fiction movies haven't felt so fictional of late? Oh sure, the genre has always been about our real-world problems in the present day. Yet, as technology has caught up to our collective imaginations, a lot of would-be fantastical representations of the future have come to resemble our current hellscape but either slightly shinier and/or dingier and with A.I. that's capable of more than cranking out fake YouTube film trailer screencaps of men standing behind nude women. Even movies set thousands of years from now on distant planets tend to be about the all-too-topical concern of young white twinks embracing fascism (much to the dismay of their progressive girlfriends).
As dour and sometimes surreal as these movies are, they're also excellent vehicles for filmmakers to talk about the biggest issues of the day and, in doing so, perhaps make them feel just...

Interviews: Code 8: Part II stars Stephen Amell, Robbie Amell, and more talk about the sci-fi sequel
Code 8 was a crowd-funded flick that debuted on the big screen in 2019 before Covid-19 shut down movie theaters. Netflix picked up the rights to the movie featuring Arrow star Stephen Amell and The Flash actor Robbie Amell, who also served as producers on the movie and the short film that inspired it. A solid genre offering, Code 8 almost immediately was on pace for a Quibi sequel series before that platform went belly up. Director Jeff Chan and the Amell cousins joined forces for a feature sequel titled Code 8 Part II (check out our review here).
Picking up five years after the first, Code 8 Part II follows Connor (Robbie Amell) after his release from prison after taking the fall for criminal friend Garrett. Garrett (Stephen Amell), is the leader of a drug ring that sells with the support of the Lincoln City Police, namely King (Alex Mallari Jr). In this world,...

Cousins Robbie and Stephen Amell reunite for the Code 8 sequel, Code 8 Part II, which just dropped its first teaser trailer. Released in 2019, Code 8 introduced a world in which 4% of the population has supernatural abilities. Those with special talents are discriminated against and are often forced into a life of crime just to get by.
In the original film, Garrett (Stephen Amell) convinced Connor (Robbie Amell) to work for a crime syndicate, a move that ultimately led to Connor going to prison.
Although Garrett and Connor have parted ways by the end of Code 8, they’ll be thrust back together in the sequel. “I want Connor to have to really deal with the ramifications of his actions in Code 8,” explained director Jeff Chan in a feature on Netflix’s Tudum. “But despite his current situation, Connor is a good and noble person at heart — a protector.”

Netflix has renewed drama series “Ginny & Georgia” for two more seasons, naming a new showrunner to helm the next installments.
Debra J. Fisher oversaw the first two seasons of the show, which landed on Netflix in January 2021 and December 2022, respectively. The third and fourth seasons will be overseen by former “Degrassi” producer Sarah Glinski.

Shotgun Wedding is a 2023 Prime Video comedy movie directed by Jason Moore starring Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel. The script is written by Mark Hammer.
Jennifer Lopez is the main atraction of this “other type” of romantic comedy that knows how to become more than just a comedy than a repetitive structure of planned scenes.
Leaving the tried and true… within its pretensions, of course.
Movie Review Shotgun Wedding (2023)
This is a comedy we were missing because of its classic spirit and above all, because it knows how to be the comedy it needs to be (we are talking about Hollywood’s golden years) and not fall into melodrama. Shotgun Wedding is more of an “action comedy” than a romantic one and although it is pretty “silly” (I don´t think anyone will deny this), it knows how to be acid when it has to be, and especially avoid some clichés,...

Two words that come to mind regarding the Season 2 finale of “Ginny & Georgia” are “shotgun” and “wedding,” but not in the way you might think.
Just as Georgia (Brianne Howey) marries Wellsbury Mayor Paul Randolph (Scott Porter) in the Cinderella-esque wedding of her dreams, Detective Gabriel Cordova (Alex Mallari Jr.) crashes the ceremony to arrest Georgia for the murder of Tom Fuller, whom she did, in fact, smother with a pillow. Season 2 ends with Georgia getting taken away in a cop car and her son Austin (Diesel La Torraca) chasing after her in tears.
“As heartbreaking as it was, I love the ending because again, life is contrast, life is joy and tragedy and nothing in life gets wrapped up in a perfect bow. So why would the Season 2 finale of ‘Ginny & Georgia’?” Howey says in an interview with TheWrap.

The hit Netflix series Ginny & Georgia follows mother and daughter duo, 30-year-old single mother Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) and her 15-year-old daughter, Ginny (Antonia Gentry) who move from Texas to the town of Wellsbury. Along for the ride with them is Georgia’s nine-year-old son, Austin. Having moved multiple times before, they are no strangers to new beginnings but Wellsbury seems a bit different for the Miller family. The show’s first season explored this through the themes of race, romance and Georgia’s tendency to murder those close to her (except her beloved kids of course.) However, in season two we really get to understand the reasons why Georgia is the force she is and why she really wanted Wellsbury to be so different for her family.
The Ginny & Georgia season 2 finale opens the morning after Austin shoots his father, Gil Timmins (Aaron Ashmore) in the arm.

Netflix's mother-daughter dramedy "Ginny & Georgia" is officially returning for a second season! In April 2021, the cast - including Brianne Howey, Antonia Gentry, Felix Mallard, and Sara Waisglass - announced the show's season two renewal in a sweet video on YouTube. "We are so appreciative of the incredible response and love you all have shown 'Ginny & Georgia,'" showrunner/executive producer Debra J. Fisher and creator/executive producer Sarah Lampert said in a joint statement. "We're especially grateful to Brianne and Toni, who set the highest bar every step of the way. We can't wait to return to Wellsbury for Season 2."
Netflix's mother-daughter dramedy made some big waves - some not so good - with its first season in February 2021. While viewers initially drew some comparisons to "Gilmore Girls," the show eventually takes off in very different directions than that classic drama. In its first week on Netflix,...

Tagline: "Fear is the Most Dangerous Power." Code 8 is a sci-fi feature film. A sequel to a short film, this feature focuses on a growing population with supernatural abilities. Forced to the fringes of society, these super-humans struggle to survive and are persecuted for their powers. Developed by director Jeff Chan, this title stars: Robbie Amell (Arq), Stephen Amell ("Arrow"), Greg Bryk (Saw V), Kari Matchett, Sung Kang, Alex Mallari Jr., Peter Outerbridge, and Shaun Benson. The film's first trailer debuted late last week and can be found here. This title was funded through a Kickstarter run. Over two million dollars were raised, vastly exceeding the filmmaker's expectations. Shooting began on the film in the Summer of 2017. And, the results look impressive from what can be seen in the trailer below. Vertical Entertainment has already set December 13th as the film's release date. On this date, Code 8 will be available on Digital platforms.

Daniel Dae Kim made headlines this year for leaving “Hawaii Five-0” over issues of pay inequality, and later, for replacing actor Ed Skrein as a Japanese-American character in the big-screen remake of “Hellboy.” Both instances involved how Asian Americans are still underrepresented in the entertainment industry, and it’s an issue that requires more discussion in order to foster understanding of how the so-called “model minority” continues to be marginalized.
