Toronto Film Review: ‘Gaga: Five Foot Two’

Toronto Film Review: ‘Gaga: Five Foot Two’
The phrase rock star, as we know it, means a couple of things. It means rock star. And it also means someone who’s the celebrated badass master of his or her domain — he’s the rock star of tax attorneys, she’s the rock star of personal trainers, he’s the rock star of plumbers. By that measure, Lady Gaga is the rock star of rock stars. She may not be at the dizzying commercial apex she was when she revolutionized the music business with her rhapsodic dance pop (at this moment, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift seem a little higher in the heavens). But in her fusion of sex, fashion, grooves, moves, aura, outrage, and — how can I put this? — sheer awesome ecstatic electricity, she’s still on the edge of glory, on a towering peak all her own.

At the Toronto Film Festival, right before the premiere of “Gaga: Five Foot Two,” a

Whoa! We Never Expected to See Anyone Get Down to Florence + the Machine Like This
Some of our favorite choreography videos are typically set to the tunes of popular dance hits (see: Demi Lovato's "Sorry Not Sorry") or throwback jams ("Get Low," anyone?). So when we came across this video for Florence + the Machine's "You've Got the Love," we were curious to see how Florence Welch's indie-rock vibes translated into a dance routine, and the Millennium Dance Complex didn't disappoint. With choreography by Nathan Trasoras, the routine made us see a new side to the band's music that we never expected. Watch the video above to see a group of talented dancers tear up the dance floor to Florence's hauntingly perfect voice.

‘Song to Song’: All the Fan-Captured Videos of Terrence Malick Shooting His Austin-Set Romance — Watch
Not much tends to be known about Terrence Malick movies in advance, as the media-shy writer/director is famous for shooting in an improvisatory style and making significant changes throughout the editing process. (Just ask Adrien Brody.) “Song to Song” is a bit different, as much of the film was shot in the open at concerts in Austin and observers were able to get a sense of its narrative. With the movie set to premiere at South by Southwest in a few days, take a moment to review some of the videos of Malick filming that made their way to YouTube over the last several years.

Music, sex, rock ‘n roll….”Song To Song” (formerly titled “Weightless“) doesn’t sound like your average Terrence Malick movie, and perhaps that’s what makes this latest entry from the suddenly prolific director so intriguing (don’t forget, he’s already wrapped his next movie, the WWII pic “Radegund“).
