Has a younger brother, David (born in 1990) who was drafted by the New York Islanders in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Attended Shattuck-St. Mary's school where he played midget AAA hockey.
On July 1, 2014, he and teammate Patrick Kane signed an 8-year, $84 million contract extension to remain with the Chicago Blackhawks.
