Movie Review – Bad Moms (2016)

29 July 2016 8:40 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Bad Moms, 2016.

Written and Directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.

Starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Jay Hernández, Clark Duke, Emjay Anthony, Oona Laurence, Jada Pinkett Smith, Annie Mumolu, David Walton, Leah McKendrick, Megan Ferguson, and Christina Applegate.

Synopsis:

When three overworked and under-appreciated moms are pushed beyond their limits, they ditch their conventional responsibilities for a jolt of long overdue freedom, fun, and comedic self-indulgence.

Of all the different types of people in the world, quite easily one of the most annoying is a parental figure with a superiority complex that their method of teaching children right and wrong is right, (along with how to behave and mingle in society) preaching to everyone else that they are doing everything wrong and that they are the devil incarnate for doing so. Bad Moms is sort of a love letter to the stressed-out parents, specifically moms, that are more »

Bad Moms – Review

So, the world has survived the (gasp!) Ghostbusters female reboot (did it really “ruin your childhood”, fellas?). Are we ready for another “lady led” comedy, one that’s a bit edgier than the new phantom-fighters? You know, not as “all-ages’ friendly, in others words, “R” rated (for raunchy). Yes, Edina and Patsy went from the small screen to the big screens last weekend. And Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates is still roaming the multiplex with  Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick as a formidable comic duo, so there are lots of funny women in adult-themed comedies around. But this current flick addresses the somewhat new social media concept of “mom shaming”, though it was probably done in whispers in pre-tech days. This weekend’s new comedy attempts to put a funny spin on all this judgemental nonsense with a story that owes a lot to Mean Girls, filtered through Bridesmaids, »

Screenwriters Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, known for their collaborative work on movies such as ‘The Hangover’ and ‘21 & Over,’ team up once more to direct a movie about the imperfection of motherhood. Amy Mitchell (Mila Kunis) despite her efforts to be the exemplary mother, becomes the effigy of the “Bad Mom”. Bad Moms Review

28 July 2016 11:48 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Despite being ditzy, doofy and aggressively off-kilter, I raise my glass to Bad Moms. This pro-mommy propaganda isn’t without traces of truth, nor is focus lost of the monument it erects in the name of our maternal caretakers. No one deserves recognition more than our mothers, who endure the most graphic of hardships just to bring us into this dystopia we call life. They willingly go through Hell just to pop out another tiny person who won’t acknowledge their worth until 17-or-so years of self-obsessed immaturity washes away like an ugly stench. If anyone deserves a drink (or twelve), it’s these thankless superheroes, and that’s what writers/directors Jon Lucas and Scott Moore never forget amidst all the drunken crying and public indecency. Mama bear instincts and all.

Do you miss those 1980s horror films like Gremlins that didn't need a lot of gore to provide a good time? Filmmaker Michael Dougherty (Trick 'r Treat) did and that's part of the reason he created Krampus, a new holiday classic that starts off innocently enough and then spirals into a nightmarish tale of survival for two related families at odds with one another.

I understand it's not Christmas-time now but that shouldn't stop you from checking out the highly entertaining Krampus when it arrives on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD beginning April 26th. In fact, we have two copies of the Krampus Blu-ray, DVD and Digital combo pack being given away in this contest.

April 26th Blu-ray & DVD Releases Include Krampus, Death Becomes Her

25 April 2016 7:17 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

There aren’t a lot of horror and sci-fi titles arriving on Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday (there are four, to be exact), but the few we do have to look forward to are an eclectic and entertaining bunch nonetheless. Scream Factory is giving HD overhauls to both Death Becomes Her and the cult classic Sssssss this week, and Christmas is coming a bit early this year by way of Michael Dougherty’s Krampus, which hits Blu-ray and DVD on April 26th. Our last release for this week is a pair of 1970s underground classics, Crypt of the Living Dead and House of the Living Dead, which arrive together on DVD courtesy of Vinegar Syndrome.

Death Becomes Her (Scream Factory, Blu-ray)

What’s this? A new horror anthology centered around a myriad of holidays and helmed by some cats I really dig (I mean, c’mon; look at that list of die-rectors up there)? You know, normally I’d make some ridiculous pun alluding to the quality or lack thereof of whatever film was at hand, and this time I think I’ll do that, too. Let’s see if this one is going to be more treats than tricks, or just an overstuffed and overcooked turkey! »

Krampus DVD Review

25 April 2016 3:03 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

At the most wonderful time of the year (Yes, we know it’s not ‘that’ time but stick with it), what better way to celebrate Yuletide than summoning a cloven-hooved goaty maverick to torment your family and loved ones?

Michael Dougherty’s Krampus is a bit of a strange beast: part family comedy, part campy horror. The first thirty minutes or so follow well-trodden tracks: dysfunctional family squabbles and the relatives from hell, all stuck together in the pressure cooker of the festive period and enforced jollity.

It all sort of ambles along smoothly enough and the casting is generally solid. There’s some funny moments when Sarah (Toni Collette) and Tom’s (Adam Scott) home is invaded by Sarah’s sister, Linda (Alison Tolman) who arrives for Christmas, with her gun loving husband, Howard (David Koechner), freaky and unpleasant kids, and acidic aunt. The couple’s youngest child Max »

VOD Vault #4 – Krampus / Holidays

17 April 2016 9:55 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Another Sunday and another installment of VOD Vault, taking a look at some of this weeks on-demand releases that have hit various VOD platforms here in the UK. This week we have a very seasonal edition, featuring two films that take a horrific look at the holidays…

Krampus

Stars: Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Emjay Anthony, Stefania Lavie Owen, Krista Stadler | Directed by Michael Dougherty

Krampus has seemingly become the de jour villain in the horror genre recently. We’ve already had two movies featuring the evil anti-Santa, Krampus: The Christmas Devil and Krampus: The Reckoning; and now comes a third. Although unlike its seasonal brethren, this Krampus at least made it into cinemas – and so it should have. This is the latest film from director Michael Dougherty, who exploded onto the UK horror scene a few years back when his Halloween anthology Trick ‘r’ Treat was screened at Frightfest. »

Jon Favreau is going to have a huge hit on his hands with “The Jungle Book”

12 April 2016 12:11 PM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

There’s no question that the animated feature The Jungle Book is an all time classic from Disney. It’s also one of many that the studio has now adapted into live action films. There was obviously some apprehension going in, but it appears to be one of the most well regarded to date, getting raves from my colleagues at advance screenings. It doesn’t surprise me one bit that the buzz suggests a huge success, not just because of previous love for The Jungle Book, but also because it’s a Jon Favreau movie and those are almost always big successes. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves as a big time filmmaker, but he certainly is. This new outing hits theaters over the weekend and will surely print another mint for the mouse. The film is obviously a live action retelling of both the Disney classic and »
