Oscar Isaac: 'Playing music is like sex with strangers'

3 hours ago | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

For years he has waited while others mopped up the applause. Now the star of the Coen brothers' Inside Llewyn Davies is finally hot property

This is Oscar Isaac's fourth Cannes. He was here in 2009 with Agora, then Robin Hood in 2010, then Drive the year after. Actually, he's quite the film fest fixture: at Venice with W.E. and Toronto with 10 Years. So it's testimony to his quicksilver skills – or to a collective forgetfulness – that he was greeted at Cannes like a starlet emerged fresh from the ether. A miraculous discovery found fully formed on the shore.

"Is that guy a real folk singer?" asked the veteran critic next to me as the end credits rolled on the Coen brothers' latest, Inside Llewyn Davis, in which Isaac stars as a Dave van Ronk-ish singer-songwriter seemingly destined for obscurity in early 1960s New York. "Where have you come from?" was »

Casting Couch: Amanda Seyfried to Play a Free Spirit For Noah Baumbach, Josh Hutcherson to Go Mental in ‘Ape,’ and More

3 hours ago | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

What is Casting Couch? It’s a tireless wanderer that scours the Internet in search for news of actors getting hired to appear in movies. Today it’s found more, including new roles for Rhys Ifans and Monica Bellucci. With his latest film, Frances Ha, just getting ready to expand beyond New York and La this weekend, director Noah Baumbach now turns his attention to his next project, a story about an older couple striking up a friendship with a younger couple called While We’re Young. Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts have been on board to play the older couple, and Girls star Adam Driver is official for the younger male, but the search for the female half of the younger couple has been an ongoing process. It’s an ongoing process that’s likely to soon come to an end though, because The Wrap is reporting that Amanda Seyfried has emerged as the potential candidate »

Writer/director Noah Baumbach has already assembled a tremendously talented ensemble for his next film, While We're Young. Ben Stiller, who previously worked with the filmmaker on 2010's Greenberg; Adam Driver, who is featured in Baumbach's Francis Ha, and Naomi Watts are all already on-board, but now The Wrap is reporting that Amanda Seyfried is now in talks to sign on as well. According to the report, the Les Miserables star has been targeted for the project for a few weeks, but now some room has opened up in her shooting schedule. Should she sign on she will star as Driver's girlfriend in the movie who enjoys making homemade ice cream. Seyfried & Stiller Team Up For ‘While We’re Young’

8 hours ago | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Noah Baumbach’s While We’Re Young is finally taking off, with news surfacing that Amanda Seyfried has signed onto the project, completing the ensemble cast.

Baumbach will be directing his Greenberg star Ben Stiller, who will feature as the husband of Naomi Watts. The pair feel that middle age has tied them down, but become reinvigorated when they meet freespirited, bohemian couple Seyfriend and Girls regular Adam Driver.

While We’Re Young is definitely a long time coming. Baumbach originally started planning his idea way back in 2010, when both James Franco and Jesse Eisenberg were circling the project. I’m a huge, huge fan of everyone involved so the sooner production begins, the better!

There's a Girls porn parody now, because of course there is

9 hours ago | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Hustler has announced plans to release its own Girls porn parody, prompting those who might care to shrug their shoulders and mumble, “wow, how did that not exist already?” This Ain’t Girls XXX reportedly stays very true to the original series, with its “provocative” tone and “very well written” dialog, the existence of which already marks it as different from most skin flicks. Actor Richie Calhoun, who plays the Adam Driver character in This Ain’t Girls, says that while he’s not a fan of the original Girls, he did everything he could to make the parody “as »

Frances Ha – The Review

10 hours ago | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Here’s a film that takes a look at modern twenty-somethings in a fresh way. While in earlier generations, those in that age bracket (if they were fortunate to do four years of higher education, or a military stint) would whip off their cap and gown and settle into a steady job and perhaps start a family (after finding that dream suburban home). For many college grads today, those post-school years can be the start of a nomadic limbo, drifting from job to job and apartment to apartment, even returning to the family nest (insisting to the parents that this is just temporary). The title character of Frances Ha doesn’t resort to that, but she is sort-of floating without a clear destination in sight. But thanks to Greta Gerwig, the film’s star and co-writer, we’re rooting for her even as she takes a ill-planned detour. Of course »

Amanda Seyfried Joins Ben Stiller in Baumbach's 'While We're Young'

10 hours ago | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Since December of 2010, the project While We're Young with director Noah Baumbach and star Ben Stiller has been gestating with fluctuating cast members. Initially James Franco was going to be a part of the project, but he fell away, and Jesse Eisenberg was circulating six months later. Now it sounds like the whole cast is coming together for Baumbach to get this film off the ground. Stiller is still leading the film about a free-spirited Brooklynite twenty-something couple who inspires an uptight documentarian (Stiller) and his wife to loosen up, and now The Wrap reports Amanda Seyfried has joined the ensemble cast. Read on! Seyfried is just coming off the Best Picture nominated Les Miserables, and will soon be heard in the animated film Epic this weekend, not to mention Seth MacFarlane's A Million Ways to Die in the West next year. Amanda Seyfried Joins Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts & Adam Driver In Noah Baumbach's 'While We're Young'

12 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

The thoroughly complete hoodwinking that Noah Baumbach pulled with his shot-on-the-sly Greta Gerwig vehicle, “Frances Ha,” has meant a celebration of the director’s rejuvenated style, and an even more fierce inquiry into what he’s hiding next. Apart from his color companion piece to “Frances Ha,” there’s the long-gestating Ben Stiller comedy “While We’re Young," which recently snagged Adam Driver and Naomi Watts for its cast, and now, it appears, will add one more. The film stars Stiller and Watts as an older, forty-something couple who cross paths with a younger, carefree couple, and with Driver secured as one-half of that pair, Amanda Seyfried has just been announced (via The Wrap) as the other. The “Les Miserables” actress is currently filming Seth MacFarlane’s “A Million Ways To Die In The West,” and will make time for Baumbach’s film before moving on to “Z For Zachariah” with Chris. »

Cannes 2013: Inside Llewyn Davis Review

21 May 2013 9:51 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The Greenwich Village Folk scene of the early sixties provides the setting for the Coen Brothers’ wonderfully meandering portrait of a struggling folk musician. The folk setting does not define Inside Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac) though, Llewyn is in many ways more a representative of artists in general and in particular one struggling to have his life defined by his art and little else.

Hopping from one couch to another in the pursuit of his dream Llewyn depends on the kindness of his friends, and occasionally strangers, but when we meet Llewyn it is clear that their generosity is wearing thin. But what is perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Inside Llewyn Davis is that this is may actually be a continuing state in which his friends inhabit.

The film’s structure is a delicious mix of a linear story and the overarching suggestion that we, with Llewyn, are stuck in some sort of loop. »

Noah Baumbach 'annoyed' by Will Ferrell's 'Kicking & Screaming' title

21 May 2013 8:54 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Noah Baumbach has admitted frustration that his 1995 film Kicking and Screaming is often confused with Will Ferrell's 2005 comedy of the same time.

Baumbach's Kicking and Screaming is the story of a group of college graduates who struggle to move on with their lives after school, while Ferrell's movie satirises children's soccer leagues.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Baumbach admitted that he wishes the producers of Ferrell's film had come up with a different title.

"It was very annoying. The same year, Crash came out too - or right around there - I imagined David Cronenberg was annoyed as well," the director said.

"I mean, actually, that was something that I was very conscious about because an obvious title for our [new] movie was Frances. And there's a very good movie with Jessica Lange called Frances about Frances Farmer."

He continued: "It kind of pushed Greta [Gerwig] and me to »
