Review: Justice League Dark

7 February 2017 10:15 AM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

The concept of the DC Comics’ mystical characters gathering to combat occult evil always sounds good but of course, execution is everything. When it was done sparingly, as in Swamp Thing #50, it was quite effective. As an ongoing series, it proved tough to manage since each player was plucked from a title that had a fairly unique look and feel.

That said, the newly released animated Justice League Dark film is incredibly entertaining and certainly a cut above the last half-dozen releases. From a story by Jld writer J.M. DeMatteis and Ernie Altbacker, Altbacker’s script shifts the super-heroic DC Universe to supernatural threats that Superman (Jerry O’Connell), Wonder Woman (Rosario Dawson), Green Lantern (Roger Cross) and the others are less equipped to handle. Altbacker is no stranger to heroes and magicians with credits including Spooksville and Green Lantern: The Animated Series and he does a fine job weaving the various threads. »

Justice League Dark Blu-Ray Review

4 February 2017 8:10 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

As much as I’ve loved the various Batman and Justice League animated films that have dropped in recent years, I must admit that a sort of repetition had set in. Thankfully, a breath of fresh air has come in the form of Justice League Dark, which shifts the focus to some DC heroes who are lesser known to the mainstream, namely those who deal in mysticism and the occult.

The lone exception to that is, of course, Batman (Jason O’Mara), whose inclusion sparked debate among fans since the movie’s initial announcement. If you’re wondering why anyone would complain about seeing more of the Dark Knight, the simple answer is that he wasn’t a part of this misfit group in the comics. But seeing as how he’s WB’s moneymaker and golden boy, it makes sense from a business standpoint. After all, the average Joe walking »

Batman Faces The Supernatural In New Justice League Dark Clip

2 February 2017 10:49 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Despite the entire opening scene having already been released online, yet another clip from Justice League Dark has emerged. And although there’s no violence to be witnessed, it may give us a clue as to how DC’s latest animated film earned its R-rating.

In it, Batman, John Constantine, Zatanna and Deadman find themselves in a bit of a sticky situation when they run into some ominous looking entities called “Shrouds.” Not only do they look like they were inspired by the shadowy creatures seen in the Patrick Swayze movie Ghost, but they also serve a similar purpose: Escorting souls to Hell.

Apparently, they’re attracted to Batman for some reason. It seems as though he’s constantly eluded their grasp, but we won’t rule out Constantine’s theory that the Dark Knight wears some pleasantly scented cologne.

Justice League Dark Review: Bloody, Violent and Confusing

26 January 2017 2:30 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Warner Brothers Animation second foray into R-rated territory doesn't quite make-up for the debacle of The Killing Joke, but it's a step in the right direction. Justice League Dark takes our venerated superheroes into supernatural territory. I was slightly aware of the Justice League Dark comics. The film is worthy of the R-rating. It's markedly violent and truly dwells in the mystical realm, but is burdened by an overly intricate plot with multiple characters. The digital release allowed me to rewind a few times to check on confusing points. In a sense the film had my rapt attention, but is overloaded with details. Blink a few times here and you'll be completely lost.

Justice League Dark opens with ordinary people committing horrific crimes. They are hallucinating being attacked by demons; then doing anything possible to fight back. Superman (Jerry O'Connell) and Wonder Woman (Rosario Dawson) bring the global events to »

Below you'll find the first 6 or so minutes of DC's next animated feature, Justice League Dark. In the opening scenes we find Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman all involved in separate incidents with civilians who are experiencing terrifying hallucinations of demonic creatures. This leads to a meeting at the Hall of Justice, before we get to a couple of scenes that have already been released as clips, involving Bats being his usual friendly self and some ominous Constantine foreshadowing. When innocent civilians begin committing unthinkable crimes across Metropolis, Gotham City and beyond, Batman must call upon mystical counterparts to eradicate this demonic threat to the planet. Enter Justice League Dark, reluctantly led by the Hellblazer himself, John Constantine. Check Out Justice League Dark’s Monstrous Opening Scene

24 January 2017 10:25 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Now that Justice League Dark has arrived via Digital HD, Warner Bros. have decided to be rather generous, making the DC animated film’s opening minutes available for all to view. So, if you weren’t already intrigued by what this movie had to offer, you may change your tune after viewing this impressive clip.

In it, we see Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman each confronted by bizarre situations in their respective cities. From what we can tell, normal citizens are apparently seeing others as grotesque demons for reasons unknown. Needless to say, we’re getting an idea of why this flick earned an R-rating.

What’s also worth noting is that we now know the chronology of previously released snippets, such as the core members of the Justice League engaging in a roundtable meeting and the edge of your seat excitement that comes with seeing Bruce Wayne shave, the »

Darren Criss Cast As Music Meister For The Flash/Supergirl Musical Crossover

23 January 2017 11:29 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Now that their battle against the Dominators is well behind them, The Flash and Supergirl can once again go about their usual business. You know, reconnecting with their loved ones and taking down supervillains on a weekly basis. But before long, these two will once again have to join forces against none other than the Music Meister.

As we previously reported, the musical crossover is set to kick off on March 20 with Supergirl acting as more of a prologue before things officially getting into full swing on March 21’s episode of The Flash, the appropriately titled “Duet.”

Seeing as how both Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist are Glee alums, it only makes sense that Darren Criss be cast as the Music Meister. This may come as somewhat of a disappointment to those who were hoping that Neil Patrick Harris would be able to reprise his role from Batman: The Brave and the Bold, »

Batman Experiences A Closer, Smoother Shave In New Justice League Dark Clip

18 January 2017 11:21 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

As the release of Justice League Dark draws near, Warner Bros. have grown more generous and have been strategically been dropping clips from the DC animated film. Not surprisingly, they’re continuing to play the John Constantine card and understandably so, when you consider they pulled off a major casting coup by getting Matt Ryan to reprise role of the charismatic demonologist from the ill-fated NBC series.

Having first been teased by the core members of the Justice League witnessing unimaginable horror and then by Constantine himself, the latest clip offered is shown without context, but may clue us in as to how Batman got the idea to reach out to the chain-smoking fellow.

In it, we see Bruce Wayne in the midst of shaving (the best a Batman can get?) when he is then surprised to find “Constantine” scrawled on his mirror and all over his bedroom. Suffice it to say, »

Justice League Dark is the next big animated movie from Warner Bros. and the direct to DVD/Blu-ray release promises to finally bring to life one of DC Comics’ most beloved teams. In addition to premiering the clip, Empire also caught up with the actor to talk about how this version of Constantine will differ from the one we’ve seen in Arrow and his upcoming animated spinoff on CW Seed:

New Justice League Dark Clip Is Simply Magical

10 January 2017 10:08 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

From the look of it, WB intends to kick off 2017 in style as the first of several DC animated films to arrive this year charts bold new territory with Justice League Dark.

Aside from being granted an R-rating, what makes this one different from previous Justice League offerings is that it shifts the focus (for the most part) to characters who specialize in dealing with magic and/or occult elements. So rest assured that John Constantine, Deadman, Swamp Thing, Zatanna and Etrigan will all get ample screentime.

In the newly released clip, it becomes apparent that the usual suspects may not be equipped to handle the emerging threat. But before Batman sets out to gather the aforementioned specialists, you’ll witness a level of stubbornness only few can display. It’s well known that he isn’t too fond of magic and we expect this movie to take full advantage of his peeve, »
