'So You Think You Can Dance' Gets It Right, Crowning Jeanine Season Five's Winner

7 August 2009 9:37 AM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

By Sabrina Rojas Weiss

Did anyone see this one coming? Not until this week, I'm almost certain. For the first half of season five of "So You Think You Can Dance," Jeanine Mason, an 18-year-old contemporary dancer from Florida, was mostly known as the partner of pop-and-locking phenom Phillip Chbeeb. Sure, she's been a lively, funny and strong dancer the whole time — and managed to wow the judges with her hip-hop, tango and jive skills, long before picking her own style more than a month after the season began. That's when, finally, she and partner Jason Glover made jaws drop with a beautiful, sexy performance (complete with lip-lock), choreographed by season-two vet Travis Wall. She showed that she could turn off that quirky, 1,000-watt smile and embody whatever other emotion the dance called for.

Still, it looked like powerful Brandon Bryant or Kayla "White Lightning" "Beautiful Lines" Radomski could do no wrong. »

Fox Day Means Sytycd, Lots of Paula, Glee and Josh Jackson

7 August 2009 | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

So You Think You Can Dance kicked off Fox's TCA panels this morning with some Paula Abdul talk and - naturally - some dancing. Precious Cat Deeley introduced the popular routines from the season though the top four weren't able to come as they were busy getting ready for tonight's finale! Nigel Lythgoe continued to express how much he would love to have Paula Abdul on Dance, but also said he's not convinced she won't be back on American Idol. The Fox execs were up next and that was all about Paula, Paula, Paula - check out the big news from that here. After lunch the highly-anticipated Glee cast took the stage and Buzz has all the details of the panel. Joshua Jackson looked hot and brought out his sarcastic sense of humor promoting Fringe. He joked that Vancouver has "become Acapulco" weather-wise but that he "never expected to get »

Press Tour Diary: Abdul talk dominates 'So You Think You Can Dance' panel

6 August 2009 9:24 AM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Who: Judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, choreographers/guest judges Mia Michaels, Adam Shankman, host Cat Deeley, plus performances by Phillip Chbeeb, Jason Glover, Caitlin Kinney, Ade Obayomi, and Melissa Sandvig. Predictions: Questions about when (not if) Paula Abdul will join the judging panel. 9:01 am/Pst: Interesting that Fox slotted this panel before the exec session. Maybe they thought we'd get all the Paula Abdul questions out of our systems here and have nothing left for entertainment prez Kevin Reilly. As if! 9:04 am: Fox is once again trying to butter us up with free DVDs, coffee table books, and fattening snacks. Lots of fattening snacks. 9:18 am: With the live performance portion of the session out of the way, the panelists take to the stage and the Abdul question kicks things off. Lythgoe says he would "absolutely" be interested in having Abdul join Dance. "I don't know anybody who »

So You Think You Can Dance: Chatting with Jason Glover

27 July 2009 6:30 AM, PDT | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

Jason Glover, according to judge Adam Shankman, was "so So You Think You Can Dance," he was the kind of dancer that "the show was all about." And as usual, we agree with Shanks. Jason Glover is the kind of dancer made for So You Think You Can Dance: talented, young, full of passion for dance, and gorgeous with his shirt off.

During his time on So You Think You Can Dance, Jason endeared the judges and America with his technical ability, beautiful "dance for your life solos," easy smile, and strong partnering. Jason and I chatted about his barn burner of a Bollywood routine, learning about his dance idol Michael Jackson's death, dancing a zombie routine after the most emotional piece in the history of So You Think You Can Dance and plans on choreographing with fellow eliminee Janette Manrara. »

'So You Think You Can Dance' Results July 23

24 July 2009 8:32 AM, PDT | Inside TV | See recent Inside TV news »

'So You Think You Can Dance' celebrated its 100th episode with a highly-anticipated performance by Katie Holmes and blasts from seasons past, including three Emmy-winning numbers, but it wasn't all fun and happy memories. Two more season 5 dancers had to go home, and this week, Janette Manrara and Jason Glover received the fewest votes. The results surprised the judges. In an unusual departure, judge Nigel Lythgoe told Janette she was his favorite dancer and one he hoped would win the competition. The other female and male dancers in danger were Kayla Radomski and Brandon Bryant. ...Read more

The 'So You Think You Can Dance' Results Are In, But Who Will Win?

17 July 2009 8:52 AM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

By Sabrina Rojas Weiss

Usually, by this point in the season of "So You Think You Can Dance," there are at least two very clear favorites and then a few dark-horse dancers waiting in the wings. As far as I can remember, past winners Nick Lazzarini, Joshua Allen, Benji Schwimmer and Sabra Johnson won our hearts immediately with their surprisingly wide range of talent and adorable personalities. But when the top 10 performed this week, I was still absolutely stumped about who will win the title of "America's Favorite Dancer."

On the other hand, I can't be the only one who knew Hawaiian heartthrob Kupono Aweau and perky cutie Randi Evans were not long for this competition. Kupono's looks aside, he just doesn't match up in physical strength (witness the way he struggled through his lifts in this week's paso doble), and as Nigel Lythgoe said a few weeks ago, he »

So You Think You Can Dance: The Day the Stars Aligned For Jason Glover

16 July 2009 6:00 AM, PDT | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

Here's an admission: I have written Jason Glover off my list over the week.

I've been doing So You Think You Can Dance for five weeks now, and I've been pretty frustrated with him.  Although, sure, he wasn't really that lucky during that five weeks.  With his partner, the since-eliminated Caitlin Kinney, he kept on picking dances that didn't really fit them.  Not everybody was amazed either, and those bottom three trips became the norm.  When Caitlin got tossed, I knew Jason had to be next, puppy looks and all.

Sound the huge buzzer, folks.  The stars finally aligned for him. »

The Tabitha- and Napoleon-choreographed "Seven Nation Army" group dance that kicked off tonight's So You Think You Can Dance top 12 elimination show was enough to make a girl pledge allegiance to the White Stripes.  (Wow!) Sadly, it wasn't all zippy numbers—we also lost two well-regarded dancers. Who went home and why? We've got the scoop, straight from the set... Caitlin Kinney and Phillip Chbeeb were eliminated tonight. The other bottom-six dancers were Jason Glover, Jeanine MasonMelissa Sandvig and Ade Obayomi.  So why did Caitlin and Phillip go home? Two more dancers got the axe on 'So You Think You Can Dance,' narrowly missing a coveted spot in the Top 10. But Caitlin Kinney and Phillip Chbeeb got some good news from head judge Nigel Lythgoe -- despite missing the cut, they'll still go on tour this summer with the Top 10. Next week, all contestants will get new partners, including Caitlin and Phillip's, Jason Glover and Jeanine Mason. The other couple in danger, for the first time, were Melissa Sandvig and Ade Obayomi. ...Read more

Meet the Men of "So You Think You Can Dance" Season 5

9 June 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Full disclosure: I'm a rabid So You Think You Can Dance fan. Every summer for the past four years the talent on display on this show simply blows every other reality competition out of the water. So much so, that one can even overlook the nagging, hetero-cheerleading presence of producer Nigel Lythgoe on the judging panel.

Nigel's peculiar obsession with the masculinity of male dancers aside, Sytycd raises your standards when it comes to dance. I mean, once you start watching this show it is awfully hard to sit through an episode of Dancing with the Stars.

Sytycd is now in its fifth season, and every year we wonder if they can assemble dancers talented enough to stack up against previous season standouts such as Travis Wall, Danny Tidwell, Neil Haskell, and a host of others.

Well, last week the show announced its finalists for the new season, and the »
