As the Sundance Film Festival’s groundbreaking and technology-facing New Frontier section kicks off its second decade in existence, the 2017 edition of the section boasts its most stacked and varied programing picks yet. The full slate includes “story worlds” in Augmented Reality headsets, projection-mapped acrobatics, a Vr beauty salon producing neuroscience data via the internet of things and a host of socialized, interactive and immersively haptic Vr story experiences.
The rest of the lineup includes live performances, a feature film and augmented reality experiences built to complement 22 Vr experiences and 11 installations, showcased between three venues in Park City. The Claim Jumper will host 10 immersive installations focused on cross-disciplinary story construction, while the Vr Palace will feature 17 Vr experiences alongside an additional installation and the Vr Bar will offer a lineup of mobile Vr. Two New Frontier projects are part of the Festival’s New Climate program, which highlights the environment and climate change.

Tonight is the season eight premiere of So You Think You Can Dance. And if you believe the commercials, the talent is better than ever before. Given the quality of dancers last season and the prior years, we do find that a little hard to believe. But knowing what a great vehicle the show is to expose these otherwise unknowns to millions of fans, it only makes sense that the b-boys, tappers, krumpers and ballerinas are crawling out of the woodwork to get on the show. So while we wait to see how this year's dancers measure up, here's a list of our favorite Sytycd routines to date.
10. Jeanine Mason and Jason Glover — "If It Kills Me" by Jason Mraz
Choreographed by Travis Wall
In season five, the runner-up from season two, Travis Wall, returned to Sytycd to make his debut as a choreographer.

Nigel Lythgoe is announcing big changes at "So You Think You Can Dance" this season.
All week he has been tweeting out some pretty major rule changes to the "Sytycd" world.
Via Nigel's twitter account:
**First rule change. Only one dancer will leave the competition each week and not two. Many more changes to come by the end of this week.
**Another rule change for Sytycd this coming Season. The partners will change every single week.
**This Season will not have a top 20. The pieces are falling into place. More tomorrow.
We're doing a conference call with Nigel on Monday, March 29, so hopefully we can get some clarification about these rules. No top 20? What does that mean? More dancers? Less?
And as for switching partners every week, we have to think that could be detrimental to the taller women or shorter men. There's a reason that someone short like Season...

So You Think You Can Dance kicked off Fox's TCA panels this morning with some Paula Abdul talk and - naturally - some dancing. Precious Cat Deeley introduced the popular routines from the season though the top four weren't able to come as they were busy getting ready for tonight's finale! Nigel Lythgoe continued to express how much he would love to have Paula Abdul on Dance, but also said he's not convinced she won't be back on American Idol. The Fox execs were up next and that was all about Paula, Paula, Paula - check out the big news from that here. After lunch the highly-anticipated Glee cast took the stage and Buzz has all the details of the panel. Joshua Jackson looked hot and brought out his sarcastic sense of humor promoting Fringe. He joked that Vancouver has "become Acapulco" weather-wise but that he "never expected to get...

Who: Judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, choreographers/guest judges Mia Michaels, Adam Shankman, host Cat Deeley, plus performances by Phillip Chbeeb, Jason Glover, Caitlin Kinney, Ade Obayomi, and Melissa Sandvig. Predictions: Questions about when (not if) Paula Abdul will join the judging panel. 9:01 am/Pst: Interesting that Fox slotted this panel before the exec session. Maybe they thought we'd get all the Paula Abdul questions out of our systems here and have nothing left for entertainment prez Kevin Reilly. As if! 9:04 am: Fox is once again trying to butter us up with free DVDs, coffee table books, and fattening snacks. Lots of fattening snacks. 9:18 am: With the live performance portion of the session out of the way, the panelists take to the stage and the Abdul question kicks things off. Lythgoe says he would "absolutely" be interested in having Abdul join Dance. "I don't know anybody who...

Melissa Sandvig, the so called Naughty Ballerina, provided a number of monumental firsts during this season of So You Think You Can Dance. Melissa was the first ballerina to get beyond the first few weeks, at 29 she was the oldest contestant to have taken the So You Think You Can Dance stage, and she graced us with a text book classical pas de deux, the first ever performed on the show.
While Melissa sold herself short at the beginning of the competition, describing herself as "only a ballerina," she proved to be adept at every style thrown at her throughout her time on So You Think You Can Dance. Whether it was a sexy rumba or a joyful Broadway hippie dance, Melissa brought incredible beauty, dedication, and technique to the stage.

Thursday night's "So You Think You Can Dance" results show opened with the top six dancing to "Send In The Clowns," but the song proved to be most meaningful to 29-year-old ballerina Melissa Sandvig and contemporary dancer Ade Obayomi, who the ones eliminated from the competition by the end of the tense hour.
Here's where I rant.
As adorable and likeable as the guy is, Broadway-loving Evan does not deserve to advance to the finals. Sorry, Evan fans! He has failed to live up to his promise week to week, even when dancing in his genre. The fact that the judges have started to inexplicably pimp him (after bashing him throughout the first half of the season) makes me resent his presence even more. Evan's got a massive number of fans who think he can do no wrong (how else to explain his staying power?), which scares me. To think...

Even in a So You Think You Can Dance episode as jam-packed with great performances as Thursday's, it was hard to forget that two dancers would leave at the end of the night. Sadly, but not surprising, it was stylish ballerina Melissa Sandvig and (this one was a little tougher to swallow) contemporary dancer Ade Obayomi. "It always hurts every week ... You die a little bit every week -- two times," judge Lil C said backstage, before offering some words of wisdom: "Losers have more to learn from losing than winners have to learn from winning. So pay attention to where you are [and] what's been given to you." Clearly everyone was and is a winner in this season's amazing top six, but now moving into next week's finale, eyes are on Brandon, who moved a little further ahead of the pack after a memorable solo [1] Wednesday. "If they're going to...

Two dancers had to leave the "So You Think You Can Dance" floor on Thursday, July 30 night, leaving only four to compete for the title. Ade Obayomi and Melissa Sandvig were eliminated in the eighth week after taking the lowest votes from the judges as well as American audience.
The four finalists thus are Kayla Radomski, Brandon Bryant, Jeanine Mason and Evan Kasprzak. Jeanine was the first to get the ticket to the finale. Thus, Kayla had to fight for her position against Melissa on the solo pieces before she advanced.
Another deliberation revealed that Brandon was through to the finale. Evan and Ade reprised their Wednesday solos but only Evan managed to pass the judges' vote to join Brandon, Jeanine and Kayla in the Top 4. Next week, two will be eliminated, one becomes a runner-up and the ultimate winner will be crowned.

On the July 30,2009 elimination show of "So You Think You Can Dance", the remaining top six dancers opened up the show with a ballet performance to a song called "Send In The Clowns" by Judy Collins which was choreographed by Tyce. The remaining 6 people of "So You Think You Can Dance" were fighting for their survival on Wednesday, July 29. Jeanine Mason, Ade Obayomi, Melissa Sandvig, Evan Kasprzak, Kayla Radomski and Brandon Bryant performed three types of dance: group, pair and solo.
First up was the Top 3 boys group routine choreographed by Sonya Tayeh. It was described as "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and Evan got the praise from guest judge Lil C for not being swallowed in between Ade and Brandon.
The show continued with the first duo of the night, Jeanine and Ade, doing samba choreographed by Louis Van Amstel. The judges generally disliked the routine which was supposed to be sexy and hot. Mary Murphy pointed out that the samba roll failed and it felt novice.

I am a Story Consultant and I love nothing more than when a story moves you to tears. This happened last night when I was watching the reality show, So You Think You Can Dance when the brilliant dancers, Melissa Sandvig and Ade Obayomi, gracefully told the story choreographed by the undeniably talented, Tyce Diorio. In the last two years, I've had four friends, beautiful and vibrant women in their thirties, deal with breast cancer while being at the top of their game. One described it to me as feeling pure anger towards this presence in her body that her spirit could not overcome, leaving her with the limited choice of having to go through chemo. One of the many things she said to me was, "Jen, I just want to keep dancing; don't let me stop dancing."...

On Wednesday, July 22, "So You Think You Can Dance" was visited by a special guest judge who knows little of the dancing techniques but adds a fresh perspective in the art of performing. Ellen DeGeneres, who has been raving about her appearance on the dance show through her Twitter, sat on the judging panel to give comments on the performances of the Top 8.
After reaching the Top 10 stage, the remaining contestants are paired at random. But they got the chance to also dance in the large group and display their solo piece after the pair dancing. The show opener on Wednesday saw former contestant Travis Wall choreographing the group dance which Nigel Lythgoe described as "Very Lady GaGa".
The first couple of the night was Evan Kasprzak and Janette Manrara who danced Jazz. The judges wanted more from Evan, reasoning that he was not rough and 'oomph' enough to balance his partner.

Usually, by this point in the season of "So You Think You Can Dance," there are at least two very clear favorites and then a few dark-horse dancers waiting in the wings. As far as I can remember, past winners Nick Lazzarini, Joshua Allen, Benji Schwimmer and Sabra Johnson won our hearts immediately with their surprisingly wide range of talent and adorable personalities. But when the top 10 performed this week, I was still absolutely stumped about who will win the title of "America's Favorite Dancer."
On the other hand, I can't be the only one who knew Hawaiian heartthrob Kupono Aweau and perky cutie Randi Evans were not long for this competition. Kupono's looks aside, he just doesn't match up in physical strength (witness the way he struggled through his lifts in this week's paso doble), and as Nigel Lythgoe said a few weeks ago, he...

Is it just us, or have all of the So You Think You Can Dance eliminations this season been perfectly righteous and reasonable? We haven't yet had to face the elimination of a really wonderful dancer (Melissa Sandvig) or a totally endearing personality (Evan Kasprzak). Full disclosure: I'm a rabid So You Think You Can Dance fan. Every summer for the past four years the talent on display on this show simply blows every other reality competition out of the water. So much so, that one can even overlook the nagging, hetero-cheerleading presence of producer Nigel Lythgoe on the judging panel.
Nigel's peculiar obsession with the masculinity of male dancers aside, Sytycd raises your standards when it comes to dance. I mean, once you start watching this show it is awfully hard to sit through an episode of Dancing with the Stars.
Sytycd is now in its fifth season, and every year we wonder if they can assemble dancers talented enough to stack up against previous season standouts such as Travis Wall, Danny Tidwell, Neil Haskell, and a host of others.
