I tend to roll the tough guy image in with the truly soft heart that I have, to then be the hard core, rough guy, that people fear kinda dude, yet come to love.
Yes, I've had a few scraps in my day, as a bouncer, bodyguard, and plain ole street-fighter.
I enjoy helping others. I always say that no one has ever helped someone else get to the top, without getting closer themselves.
Folks get really surprised when they meet me and see just how much of a "nice guy" I truly am, even though I look like I'll break them in half! So, I'll intimidate if I have to, and be nice when I can. (laughing)
In regards to motivation I'd tell my soldiers. "If this training for combat makes you throw up, just suck that stuff back up and drive on...!"
My daily prayer is to be a Christian for my God, a husband to my wife, a father to my kids, a soldier to my country, and a blessing to all.
The BEST compliments I've EVER gotten were these. From my boys: "Thanks Dad, for being a great father and raising me the way you did." And from my soldiers: "I'd follow you into combat any day, Sir.!"
I volunteer at a few charities, such as Horses For Heroes, the homeless shelter, scared straight, pilot for Mercy Flight Southeast, and others. I believe in making a difference in the lives of others. It touches my heart.
