Denzil Meyers products
An unlikely combination of a father from India and an Italian-American mother, Denzil grew from the "Rocky" movie neighborhoods of South Philadelphia and South Jersey, where words like "Anthony" and "Italy" have only 2 syllables.
When not playing sports or riding his bike, he spent much of his formative years clenched in existential crisis and struggling philosophically against the Catholic Church. Crusading for Justice, he co-founded The Roach, his high school's first underground newspaper.
At The George Washington University, Denzil studied Radio & TV production, serving as both Production Manager and General Manager of the post-punk campus radio station WRGW. His first video production was shot and edited on black and white, reel to reel video tape.
In San Francisco in the late 90's, he had his mind blown by some crazy people who introduced him to their business offering theatrical improvisation workshops to corporate teams. Denzil deep-dived into a transformative dual-study of improv and life coaching. Which somehow led him to clown school and post-modern dance. Which somehow led to a long and fruitful relationship with SF's cozy black box Darkroom Theatre.
At the Darkroom, Denzil debuted by adapting and directing for the stage a 1961 Twilight Zone episode ("Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?"). Darkroom producer Jim Fourniadis next offered Denzil the task of writing and co-directing an absurdist adaptation/rearrangement of the 80's legendary underground comic "Zippy The Pinhead". The play was voted one of the year's 10 Best of the Bay, and launched Denzil into a bunch of Darkroom productions as performer or director.
At the Darkroom, he counts as highlights 2 once-in-a-lifetime roles: as the Unknown Comic in a Gong Show revival, and impersonating Jerry Seinfeld in a 30 minute "lost episode" Twilight Zone.
Driven by both artistic ambition and capitalistic unwillingness to work for free, Denzil moved to LA to start a new business as an actor.
