The Lake: J.K. Simmons Joins Luc Besson's Navy Seal Treasure Film

Deadline is reporting that J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) has joined the cast of Luc Besson's Navy SEALs action thriller The Lake. It will not be a large role for the recent Oscar winner but no one is probably better suited to play a Rear Admiral than he right now. Joining the cast of leads with recent addition Sullivan Stapleton on the ground in war-torn Siberia will be Charlie Bewley (Twilight) and Diarmaid Murtaugh (Sons of Liberty). Simmons has a smaller role as the Rear Admiral and leathery boss to the SEALs who doesn't exactly approve of what his team is doing but supports them nevertheless... Bewley is playing the soulful Stanton who has a love interest (yet to be cast) and daydreams about what life would be like outside of...

J.K. Simmons Joins Action-Thriller ‘The Lake’

Oscar winner J.K. Simmons, Charlie Bewley and Diarmaid Murtagh have joined the cast of Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp action-thriller “The Lake.”

Sullivan Stapleton stars in the story of a group of Navy SEALs attempting to uncover an immense treasure hidden in a lake in war-torn Serbia. EuropaCorp has set a July 15, 2016, release date.

The project is being produced by Besson, Christophe Lambert and Lisa Elzey. “The Lake” is written by Besson and Richard Wenk and directed by Steven Quale (“Into the Storm”).

Simmons won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar last month for “Whiplash.” He will appear in “Terminator Genisys,” “The Accountant,” “The Meddler” and “Kong: Skull Island” with Michael Keaton.

Bewley appeared in the “Twilight” series. Murtagh starred in the “Sons Of Liberty” miniseries and “Dracula Untold.”

Earlier this month 300: Rise Of An Empire’s Sullivan Stapleton signed up for The Lake, a new action thriller that bears the producing stamp from Luc Besson. The ensemble around him is beginning to fill out, with J.K. Simmons, Charlie Bewley and Diarmaid Murtagh reporting for duty.Into The Storm’s Steven Quale is handling the shot-calling for this one, which finds a group of Navy SEALs who discover a mysterious trove of treasure hidden in a lake in war-torn Serbia. Their quest becomes to find out who left it there and what its ultimate purpose might be. Naturally, that will lead to bullets flying and plenty of tough scrapes. It’s a Besson production: you were expecting quiet debate about war crimes? Simmons, who recently scored an Oscar for his performance in Whiplash, has several films due out this year, including Terminator Genisys (July 3), Worlds Apart and Rock Dog. »
