TV Land’s Younger Closes Second Season With Higher Ratings Than Ever

29 March 2016 8:50 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

If you still aren’t watching Younger, it’s time to get on board, and apparently a lot of people are. The second season finale aired recently, and managed the show’s best ratings.

That’s a good trick for a show these days, especially when it isn’t one that can manage an insane marketing budget. It’s all down to the writing with this one, and Sutton Foster‘s charm. When I initially reviewed Younger, I was impressed, but was a little nervous that the show might fall too hard for its own shtick. While the show obviously focuses on the inherent problems of keeping up the lie, it has managed to build characters worth watching without playing for ridiculous drama. The idea creates enough problems without trying to milk it, and the attention to dialog has been refreshing through two seasons.

TV Land comedy “Younger” capped a solid second season last Wednesday by drawing its largest audience to date — and continuing to live up to its name as the show with the youngest audience profile on the network.

The March 23 season finale of the Darren Star-created comedy, which featured a shocking death and unexpected kiss, averaged 1.30 million viewers, including 676,000 adults 18-49, according to Nieslen’s “live plus-3” estimates. This marked the fourth time in the last five weeks that it had set a viewership high, surpassing the previous high of 1.26 million one week earlier.

Younger” continues to be among the biggest percentage gainers in time-shifted viewing on all of television. Last week’s finale more than doubled in the demo from its same-day delivery (676,000 vs. 291,000) while rising 92% in total viewers (1.30 million vs. 678,000). And for the season, the comedy grew in “live plus-3” on average by 84% in total viewers (614,000 to 1.13 million »

‘Younger’: Sutton Foster, Darren Star on Finale Shockers, Matthew Morrison Episode, What’s to Come in Season 3

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched the Season 2 finale of “Younger,” which aired on March 23.

TV Land’s critical darling “Younger” wrapped up its second season Wednesday night, and while the ladies’ friendships all ended on a high note, Liza’s (Sutton Foster) love life is at an all-time high of complexity.

In the aftermath of Thad’s (Dan Amboyer) sudden death, Kelsey (Hilary Duff) is shaken up at her fiancé’s funeral and matters only get worse when Liza comes clean about knowing that Thad was cheating on her. Kelsey blows up at Liza who handles the fight by quitting Empirical Publishing to start a new life and give Kelsey her own space. By the end of the episode, Liza and everyone around her realizes that leaving Empirical is not the answer and — probably coerced by her boss Charles (Peter Hermann) finally kissing her! — she »

‘Younger’ Season 2: Sutton Foster Says One More Character Learns Liza’s Secret, Teases New Love Interest

13 January 2016 6:27 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

TV Land’s critical darling “Younger” returns with Season 2 Wednesday night, and star Sutton Foster says the stakes are higher the second time around.

“Season 2 is more confident,” says Foster, who plays the 40-year-old aspiring publisher Liza who’s posing as a 20-something to help her career. “I know I feel more just confident in this character. It’s more marinated, the writing is even better than Season 1. I joke it’s bolder, sexy, wiser. It’s ballsier. A lot more ‘oh my god’ moments.”

Created by “Sex and the City” and “Beverly Hills, 90210” mastermind Darren Star, “Younger” has helped TV Land in its mission to reach more millennials with fresher programming, which is ironic, given Foster’s fake-millennial character Liza — who comes across even more hurdles in the new episodes, now that her much younger boyfriend Josh (Nico Tortorella) is in on her secret.

Darren Star Discusses How ‘Younger’ Will Follow the ‘Sex & the City’ Formula

TV Land pulled out all the stops for the New York launch party celebrating both the return of its hit series “Younger” and premiere of newcomer “Teachers” — completely taking over the bulk of the NoMad Hotel, including the NoMad Bar, the Library and the Parlour.

Younger” creator Darren Star, and the show’s stars, Sutton Foster and Nico Tortorella, talked about the upcoming second season.

“I wanted to open up stories more to the ensemble,” said Star. “I think ‘Sex and the City’ is a good analogy: I felt like at the beginning, it was more about Carrie, and then you got to find out more about the other characters. And we have such an amazing cast on this show, that we wanted to tell stories about some of the other characters more as well. Of course Liza is front and center,” he added.
