Photo by Alicia Palaniuk Tomo Nakayama is used to performing, but the Grand Hallway lead singer usually does it with a guitar in his hand and a microphone at his mouth. Acting in a movie — and a movie by one of the most exciting emerging directors around — is a far different thing, altogether. The Japanese-Vietnamese-American talked with us recently to tell about falling in love with Ellen Page in Lynn Shelton’s new film Touchy Feely. »

Rosemarie DeWitt Talks Touchy Feely, Reuniting with Lynn Shelton, Awkward Brother/Sister Dynamics, Kill The Messenger, the Poltergeist Remake, and More

30 August 2013 8:34 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Rosemarie DeWitt navigates her way through a soul-searching identity crisis in Lynn Shelton’s new indie dramedy, Touchy Feely, about people uncomfortable in their own skin.  DeWitt plays Abby, a popular massage therapist and free spirit who suddenly develops an uncontrollable aversion to bodily contact.  The unexpected crisis, which coincides with her brother’s (Josh Pais) equally abrupt transformation, not only makes Abby’s occupation impossible, but severely hinders her passionate love life with her boyfriend (Scoot McNairy).  Now available on iTunes/On Demand, and in theaters September 6th, the film features an impressive ensemble cast that also includes Ellen Page, Allison Janney, Ron Livingston, and Tomo Nakayama. During our recent interview, DeWitt talked about reuniting with Shelton on a more traditionally scripted film compared to their earlier collaboration on the largely improvised Your Sister’s Sister, building the awkward brother/sister dynamic with Pais, finding it scary playing her character without the usual anchors, »

17 June 2013 6:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Following her award-winning Your Sister’s Sister last year, Lynn Shelton returns behind the camera to bring us one of the best dramas of the year in Touchy Feely.

The independent feature made its debut at Sundance at the start of the year, and was thankfully one of the handful of films chosen to screen at Sundance London – you can read our review here. I saw its UK debut back in April and absolutely loved it, and am very much looking forward to a repeat viewing.

Boasting another fantastic ensemble cast, Shelton’s feature will be getting an early VOD release this summer, ahead of a theatrical Us release in September. And now Magnolia have released a terrific first trailer for the film.

Sundance London 2013 – Touchy Feely Review

27 April 2013 7:30 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Marking Lynn Shelton’s return behind the camera following her acclaimed Your Sister’s Sister, Touchy Feely is yet another remarkable feature from one of the most unique voices in the industry.

Rosemarie DeWitt and Josh Pais are terrific as the co-leads of a brilliant ensemble cast. DeWitt plays Abby, a free-spirited massage therapist who is suddenly overcome by an aversion to contact with skin, rendering her incapacitated in both her profession and her love life with her boyfriend (Scoot McNairy).

Pais plays her brother, Paul, a quirky, uptight, and emotionally unavailable dentist whose daughter, Jenny (Ellen Page), helps his failing dentist practice find its feet when word begins to spread that he has a magical healing touch.

The two siblings start out about as different from one another as is possible. But over the course of the film, as Abby and Paul navigate their own personal journeys and begin »

Sundance London: Touchy Feely Review

26 April 2013 7:10 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Director: Lynn Shelton.

Starring: Rosemarie DeWitt, Allison Janney, Ron Livingston, Scoot McNairy, Ellen Page, Josh Pais, Tomo Nakayama.

Running Time: 88 minutes.

Synopsis: A massage therapist is unable to do her job when stricken with a mysterious and sudden aversion to bodily contact. Meanwhile, her uptight brother’s foundering dental practice receives new life when clients seek out his healing touch.

Don’t worry – this is lighter than it sounds. Though the premise may put you in mind of a powerful but sluggish drama about the fragility of human interaction, Touchy Feely is a warm, accessible and very funny drama. It’s the sort of film Juno would grow up to be, although it may just feel that way due to the always welcome presence of Ellen Page and Allison Janney. This is an ensemble piece that excels due to its wonderful cast, and though Page and Janney are as chuckle inducing, »

Magnolia Pictures is back in business with Seattle auteur Lynn Shelton, buying world rights for her fifth feature, the well-acted relationship comedy "Touchy Feely," which debuted at January's Sundance Film Festival. (Our video interview with Shelton and star Rosemarie DeWitt is here.) Magnolia released her 2009 breakout comedy "Humpday," starring Mark Duplass, who co-starred with DeWitt in Shelton's last film, "Your Sister's Sister." DeWitt's role in that film earned an Independent Spirit Awards Best Supporting Actress nomination. "Touchy Feely" also stars Josh Pais, Ellen Page, Scoot McNairy, Allison Janney, Ron Livingston and indie rock icon Tomo Nakayama (Grand Hallway). For Shelton, "Touchy Feely" marks her most personal film since her 2006 debut "we go way back." While Shelton's last two Sundance entries, the entirely improvised "Humpday," and 80% improvised "Your Sister's Sister," focused on observing male/female relationships, this one stars DeWitt as the »
