Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett offer up an idea for You’re Next 2

15 September 2014 12:57 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Spoilers for You’re Next, obviously…

Their latest movie, The Guest, is still out in cinemas (read our reviews here and here) and to promote the movie, director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett took part in a Reddit Ama. But while discussing The Guest, they offered up some ideas for a sequel to their home invason horror, You’re Next.

When asked what they would do if they were to put together a sequel, the duo answerd, “We had a cool idea that involves Erin being blamed for the first film’s murders. She escapes from a prison van and has to fight off attackers related to the first film’s Lamb Mask in the woods while she is still handcuffed to several other criminals from the transport vehicle. Of course it would get way more complicated than that but that would be the starting point.”

Movie Review – The Guest (2014)

7 September 2014 4:45 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The Guest, 2014.

Directed by Adam Wingard.

Starring Dan StevensMaika Monroe, Brenden Meyer, Sheila Kelley, Leland Orser, Lance Reddick, Joel David Moore, and Chase Williamson.

Synopsis:

A soldier introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.

Following on from their home invasion genre masher, the brutally brilliant You’re Next, director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett return with The Guest, a thriller that recalls and recaptures the VHS heyday of the 80’s in all of its glory. Staying true to Wingard and Barrett’s style, they take another convention, here it’s the stranger with a mysterious background, then deconstruct it and turn it on its head so the viewer is never quite sure where the story will go next. »

Exclusive: Dan Stevens denies links to Escape From New York remake

1 September 2014 8:35 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Yesterday it was reported that Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) was in line to take on the role of Snake Plisskin in the reboot of the John Carpenter classic, Escape From New York. While over to promote his new film The Guest (read our review here), Stevens told Flickering Myth that there was no truth to the rumours.

“(laughs) I just heard [the rumours] this morning,” Stevens said. “It’s the first I’ve heard of it. It’s hilarious if it’s true! I don’t know anything about it. But it’s lovely to have it banded about.”

During the interview, Stevens talked about this love for John Carpenter movies and indicated that he would be interested in the role however saying, “I need to make some phone calls, I think!”

You can also hear our interview with Adam Wingard, Simon Barrett and Maika Monroe talking about The Guest here.

Film4 FrightFest 2014 Review – The Guest (2014)

The Guest, 2014

Directed by Adam Wingard

Starring Dan StevensMaika Monroe, Brenden Meyer, Shelia Kelley, Leland Orser, Lance Reddick, Joel David Moore, Chase Williamson

Synopsis:

A soldier introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.

The Guest is like a modern day The Stepfather meets The Terminator in this heavily 80s inspired movie from the men behind You’re Next, Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett. It’s highly enjoyable and incredibly silly at times, with one of the most fun leading performances seen in a horror movie this year from Downtown Abbey star Dan Stevens. It rides the border of serious and fun with perfect aim and rarely falters.
