'Need for Speed 2' Moves Forward as Chinese Co-Production

8 April 2015 10:52 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Need for Speed didn't exactly set the box office on fire last year, taking in just $43.5 million domestically. But if three Chinese studios have their way, they will start production on a sequel later this year. Video game publisher Electronic Arts is teaming with Chinese companies China Movie Channel Program Center, Jiaflix Enterprises and 1905 Pictures, the same three companies that co-produced Transformers: Age of Extinction with Paramount, to make Need for Speed 2. The follow-up will be shot in China and feature the nation's actors taking on "significant roles," according to Variety, although the sequel doesn't have a writer or director locked in yet.

While Need for Speed underperformed domestically, it still pulled in $159.7 internationally, $65 million of which came from China alone. Overall, Need for Speed took in $203.7 million worldwide from a $66 million production budget. Here's what China Movie Channel Chairman Yin Cao had to say about the sequel in a statement. »

New Entourage Trailer Has More Guest Stars Than You Can Count

24 March 2015 5:02 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Warner Bros has just released the second Entourage trailer. While I was a fan of the show during the first two or three seasons, I just can't get too excited about what I've seen from this movie so far (and that includes the first trailer). The show was at its best when it focussed on Hollywood satire and the insane machinations of the film business. But the more it began to focus on the lifestyle of Vince and his buddies (which was a fine component when kept in check), the less interested I became. In turn, the only moments of this trailer that pop for me are when they are dealing with the drama of their movie falling apart, the rest I'm not super compelled by. But if you've clicked on this article, chances are you'll disagree with me. You can watch the new Entourage trailer below. The film stars Adrien Grenier, »

Every Sundance, Twitter transforms into Park City's Town Square, a democratic forum for celebrities, filmmakers and audiences to share thoughts on the festival's programming. ‘Me And Earl And The Dying Girl’ Takes Top Dramatic Honors At Sundance; Is It The Next ‘Whiplash’? – Winners List

31 January 2015 8:15 PM, PST | Deadline | See recent Deadline news »

Updated with details and quotes: The Sundance Film Festival awards ceremony tonight in Park City saw a dramatic dual decision and strong political voices to put a cap on a hot-deals festival. Like last year, when Whiplash took both the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award on its way to an Best Picture Oscar nomination, the much-sought Me And Earl And The Dying Girl took both this year.

“I want to dedicate this to all the young filmmakers in my hometown of Laredo, Texas,” said director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon onstage. Fox Searchlight and Indian Paintbrush teamed to land the pic earlier this week after frenzied bidding, with a 2015 release planned. The Jesse Andrews script follows Greg, who is coasting through senior year of high school as anonymously as possible, avoiding social interactions like the plague while secretly making spirited, bizarre films with Earl, his only friend. Sundance 2015: ‘James White’ is an intimate portrait of desperation

30 January 2015 3:45 PM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

James White

Directed by Josh Mond

USA, 2015

The edge is where you find it. For James White, the jarring first feature from director Josh Mond, the edge is the only home he knows. Unrelenting and formless, Mond’s character study explores the toll that life can take if you aren’t paying attention.  This isn’t a grand epic with plot twists and moments of self-revelation; just a story about a good son careening toward self-destruction. Simple, yet powerfully effective.

James White (Christopher Abbott), as his dying mother (Cynthia Nixon) astutely observes, is a man “with 96 crayons in his box.”  Staring down the barrel of 30, twenty-something James is a study in contradictions, his hard drinking and narcissism at odds with the tireless dedication with which he cares for his mother.  He’s a slacker on a mission.  “We always thought you would end up in prison,” seems to be the consensus on his future prospects. »

‘Two Night Stand’ Review

Stars: Analeigh Tipton, Miles Teller, Jessica Szohr, Scott Mescudi, Josh Salatin, Kellyn Lindsay, Michael Showalter, Leven Rambin, Joey Lauren Adams | Written by Mark Hammer | Directed by Max Nichols

During The Theory of Everything, I could have sworn I saw the plot of Two Night Stand chalked up on one of Eddie Redmayne’s blackboards. Then I squinted and laughed at my own stupidity; Professor Stephen Hawking may have worked with formulas, but he would have never come up with one so predictable and wholly unoriginal.

This may come as a surprise to you (prepare your gasps), but there aren’t a whole lot of romantic comedies that try breaking the mould when it comes to story, characters and (especially) heartfelt speeches.

And so it goes with Two Night Stand, a harmless enough story about a pair of strangers (Analeigh Tipton and Miles Teller on agreeable if fairly bland form) who »
