With Syfy already finding success importing shows like Canada's "Lost Girl" and "Continuum," the cable channel is continuing the tradition, and this time is looking not just north, but across the pond as well. Syfy is set to premiere "Sinbad" as well as "Primeval: New World" this summer. "Sinbad" is based on the epic hero of legend found in the classic "1001 Arabian Nights" literature. The 12-episode series from England follows the journey of the famous Middle Eastern sailor played by Elliot Knight, who is forced to flee his hometown of Basra. He travels with a diverse crew, and is forced to face his nemesis, Lord Akbari, played by "Lost" alum Naveen Andrews. Syfy had originally planned to air "Sinbad" in April, but instead moved the show to the summer, joining "Primeval: New World," »

It looks like our summer is shaping up very nicely, thanks to some excellent scheduling by The Powers That Be. At least our weekends will be taken care of. True Blood will almost certainly return in its usual Sunday at 9/8c slot, so there’s Sunday sorted. We told you earlier today that Zero Hour will be airing Saturdays at 8/7c, which fits in perfectly with this latest scheduling announcement: Primeval: New World will be airing Saturdays at 9/8c, followed by Sinbad at 10/9c on Syfy.

You may recall that we told you about the Syfy pickup of Primeval: New World back in October. You’ll recognize it as a spinoff from the original Primeval which aired here originally on BBC America. You’ll also recognize the star, Niall Matter, as Zane from the late great EurekaPrimeval: New World is another  series acquired by Syfy from our pals up in Canada, »

'Sinbad' axed by Sky after one series

27 February 2013 5:18 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

Sinbad has been axed by Sky1 after a single series.

The 12-part action adventure saga, featuring Elliot Knight as the titular hero, will not be returning for a second series as its "story has now been told", the broadcaster announced.

"As a broad, family entertainment channel, Sinbad was the perfect drama to showcase Sky1's ambitions for long-running, blockbuster series," Sky said in a statement.

"We were thrilled with the cast and the production team at Impossible, however, we feel that Sinbad's story has now been told."

The company added: "We're in development on a number of exciting new projects and look forward to sharing more news with our customers very soon."

Sinbad premiered on Sky1 in July and counted Lost's Naveen Andrews and Fringe star Orla Brady among its cast.

Dougray Scott, Sophie Okonedo, Timothy Spall and Mathew Horne also made guest appearances.
