If you follow our Twitter feed (@CinemaSpy) you’ll know that a couple of days ago we promised you the specs for the December 6 Blu-ray and DVD release of Cowboys & Aliens.
Forgive our tardiness but our stagecoach was delayed a day by a washed out road and the 1G wi-fi at the nearest saloon was spotty at best. Hence, it’s taken us a bit longer than expected to reach the best Western (Ok, bad joke). Anyway, here are the full details.
According to Universal, the Blu-ray combo pack release will include and extended edition of the John Favreau-directed sci-fi western while the DVD will have the theatrical version. As far as we can tell, the extended edition includes roughly 17 minutes of extra footage but we’ve no idea what that shows. As for Bonus Features, here’s the list:

Director Jon Favreau‘s (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) sci-fi/western mashup, Cowboys & Aliens is coming to Blu-ray just in time for the holidays. Universal Home Entertainment has stuffed this package with a rather large stable of behind the scenes bonus features, and Universal’s very cool, extremely interactive Second Screen feature.

Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens starring Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Ana de la Reguera, Adam Beach, Paul Dano, Clancy Brown, Keith Carradine and Noah Ringer will appear in an all-new extended cut when it debuts on Blu-ray and DVD on December 6.
Cowboys & Aliens was expected to explode into theaters in late July with a $50 million or higher opening weekend. While it's $36 million opening wasn't disastrous, it fell well below expectations given the film's $163 million budget, stars attached, "from the director of Iron Man" tag, and spiffy visual effects. By the end of its theatrical run, Cowboys & Aliens failed to top $100 million domestically, and nudged past the production budget once overseas ticket sales were factored into the overall gross.
