Dr. Grymm's alter ego, Joey Marsocci has been a freelance designer of theme park attractions, toys, puppets, graphic marketing, film props, and private consignments for over 18 years. A graduate of California Institute of the Arts with a BFA in Film and Animation, Marsocci's mix of Victorian elegance and science fiction styling through sculpture and design, gave him the natural advantage to design for the growing popularity of the world of Steampunk. His first professional venture into this world was as one of the lead designers on the initial proposal team for a new 20,000 Leagues attraction.
Together with his business partner and wife, Allison DeBlasion, (Mrs. Grymm), Dr Grymm hosts the annual Steampunk Bizarre Exhibit located in Hartford, Connecticut, now it its third year. Presented by The Mark Twain House and Museum October 1 - Jan 15 2012, the exhibit features the works of Dr. Grymm and 21 other well known International Steampunk Artists.
Dr. Grymm is also the Author of "1000 Steampunk Creations" by Quarry Books as well as "How to Draw Steampunk", by Walter Foster books. Most recently he can be seen on BBC America, CBS Sunday Morning, PBS, The New York Times, and HGTV's Selling New York. He is also featured in the documentary I Am Steampunk, the Independent films Steam Driven and Adventures in Science, and as one of the Art Designers behind the upcoming film Jesus Hates Zombies.
Dr. Grymm Laboratories currently provides custom designs of props and creatures for film production companies across the US. Dr. Grymm's custom contraptions and sculptures have been seen in Steampunk exhibits including the Steampunk Exhibit held at the Oxford University History of Science Museum in 2010 and the Form and Function Exhibit held at the Charles Rivers Museum 2011, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and the Historic Hudson Valley. Various publications that showcase the work of Dr. Grymm include; The Art of Steampunk, and The Steampunk Bible, the French publication Steampunk, as well as several trade magazines and websites such as Tor.com, Make, Geeky Gadgets, Wired, Fangoria, and Boing Boing.
