Last season, once again, ABC didn't announce if General Hospital would return for another year. They haven't cancelled the show either so, as long as it stays on the air, perhaps no news is good news. Will Gh survive to see a 56th season (2018-19)? How will it do in the ratings? Perhaps because ABC owns General Hospital outright, the network sometimes doesn't announce if their sole surviving soap opera has been renewed for another season. (They didn't make an announcement about the 2016-17 season.) Of course, they'd certainly let us know if the show had been cancelled. Will Gh survive to see a 55th season (2017-18)? Someone is coming back from the dead on General Hospital. TVLine reports Michael Sutton is reprising the role of Stone Cates on the ABC TV show.Sutton began playing Cates on the long-running soap in 1993. The 44th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were held Sunday at the Pasadena Civic Center, hosted by Mario Lopez and Sheryl Underwood. ABC’s “Good Morning America” claimed the Emmy for best morning program, one of the night’s top prizes.

Going into the night, CBS and its soap “The Young & the Restless” led the pack in nominations, with 70 noms for the network and 25 for the show.

The National Academy of Television has announced the nominations for the 2017 Daytime Emmy Awards. “The Young and the Restless” leads the pack with 25 nods, including Outstanding Drama Series, two bids for Outstanding Lead Actress for Gina Tognoni and Jess Walton, and two for Outstanding Lead Actor for Peter Bergman and Kristoff St. John.

Competing for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show are “The View,” “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Maury,” “Live With Kelly,” and “The Talk.” The ladies of “The View” are also in the run for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Hosts.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has unveiled the top contenders for nominations in the Daytime Emmy Awards’ drama acting categories.

NATAS narrows the field of potential nominees through online balloting. The top 10 vote-getters in each category will advance to the next round of judging for nominations, set for Feb. 20 by blue-ribbon panels of NATAS members.

The nominations will be announced March 22 on CBS’ daytime series “The Talk.”

In a surprising twist, both “Days of Our Lives” and “The Young and the Restless” took home the top soap prize at Sunday’s Daytime Emmys.

The two popular shows tied to win outstanding drama series. Other top winners include “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” winning the talkshow/entertainment category again, along with Craig Ferguson for best gameshow host and Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan for best talkshow hosts/entertainment.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences found a new broadcasting home in the cabler Pop, which aired the event live, as opposed to last year’s webcast-only show. Tyra Branks hosted.

Daytime Emmys 2015: Soap Showrunners Submit Most Emotional Episodes
In an era when soap production budgets have been drastically cut, showrunners are facing even tougher choices when it comes time to choose which episodes they’ll submit to win the Daytime Emmy for drama series.

But this year’s quartet of contenders say the decision ultimately comes down to an age-old strategy — aim for the heart.

There was a time when daytime serial producers had a lot more money to spend and the flashiest (read: priciest) episodes would typically be slamdunk Emmy submissions. Nowadays, showrunners are singling out the episodes that deliver emotional wallops.

“When the Emmys come around it takes a while to reflect back on the year before,” says “General Hospital” exec producer Frank Valentini. “We do quite a few episodes a year so we have to be very self-actualizing.”
