Cheryl Boone Isaacs says record intake of younger, ethnic minority and female voting members reflects goal of inclusiveness for world’s most powerful film awards ceremony
The head of the organisation that puts on the Oscars has said it is seeking to “normalise” its membership after decades of being seen as a Hollywood club for members who are largely white, male and over 50.
Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of the Us Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, was discussing last week’s induction of 322 new “invitees”, the largest in the body’s history. BBC America has ordered a second season of Atlantis, their new TV series.
Atlantis debuted on November 23rd and drew 838,000 viewers, the cable network's highest-rated series premiere for their Supernatural Saturday block. The high numbers very likely came at least in part because of the show's big lead-in, the Doctor Who anniversary episode. There are 13 episodes in the current season.
"Atlantis is off to a fantastic start and is the centerpiece of our Saturday nights for the next 12 weeks," notes BBC America's senior vp programming Richard De Croce. "We’re committed to bringing our viewers even more entertaining episodes inspired by Greek mythology from Howard and the talented team in season two."
What do you think? Do you like Atlantis? Are you looking forward to season two?...

Syfy has ordered a fourth season for its flagship show ‘Warehouse 13,’ according to The Hollywood Reporter. The next season will feature 13 episodes, and will premiere during summer 2012, much like the previous three seasons. Starring Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly, ‘Warehouse 13′ has been a solid performer for Syfy so far this season. So far this year, the show, which was created by Jack Kenny, has averaged 2.3 million total viewers. The high numbers for the basic cable network comes after Aaron Ashmore was cast this season as Steve Jinks. The news of the renewal comes after Kenny discussed a potential spin-off series starring ‘Warehouse 13′ character H.G....

Didn’t I just write one of these a week ago? Of course I did, because this is your destination for the best coverage of all the new titles Criterion puts up on their Hulu Plus page, and this week is no different. There’s fewer films (unless they decide to throw up another 30 when I least expect it) but in this case, less is more. And the lucky number is 13 this time. If you like what you see, please sign up via this link. It does wonders for this article. But enough about that, you want to know about the movies. So let’s not make the good people wait.
