The First Teaser Trailer for Rio 2

15 May 2013 12:07 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Rio took almost half a billion dollars for Blue Sky Studios back in 2011, and launched their first franchise outside of the Ice Age series. Needless to say, things are looking excellent for their sequel next year, Rio 2.

Currently slated for release in April 2014, the animated comedy-musical will see the original leading cast reprising their roles for the follow-up, alongside a host of brilliant new voices. And whilst we still might be ways out from its theatrical release date, we all know how fast time flies (bird-related pun only partially intended). And thus we arrive at this great first Rio 2 teaser trailer!

Blu, Jewel, and their three kids live the perfect domesticated life in the magical city. When Jewel decides the kids need to learn to live like real birds, she insists the family venture into the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in with his new neighbors, he »

First 'Rio 2' Teaser Trailer Flies in from Brazil

15 May 2013 8:30 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

It's only appropriate the first trailer for Rio 2 arrive courtesy of Brazil as Blue Sky and Fox once again return to the life of Blu (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg) and his now-companion Jewel (voiced by Anne Hathaway) in Rio de Janiero. The teaser is really nothing more than an announcement for the film, which won't hit theaters until April 11, 2014, but it does let you know Blu and Jewel have now had kids of their own and a common villain will make an appearance. As for the story, once Jewel decides the kids need to learn to live like real birds, she insists the family leave their domesticated lives and venture into the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in with his new neighbors, he worries he may lose Jewel and the kids to the call of the wild. Essentially, they've found a way to replicate the events of the first film, »

Trailers often reveal too much about a movie. But what happens when they don't?

21 April 2013 10:00 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

“Well, now I feel like I’ve seen the whole movie,” is an increasingly common complaint about movie trailers. Studios’ marketing strategy is frequently to lure viewers into the theater with a peek at a movie’s biggest fight sequence or most compelling twist, a promise of what people will see if they buy a ticket. But there are some trailers in recent years that have mastered the art of creating a sense of mystery and avoiding spoiling key surprise moments.

Looper Blu-ray Review

7 February 2013 10:02 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

One of the most original films of 2012 by far was writer/director Rian Johnson's Looper, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis as two versions of the same character from different points in his life.  Rather than fry your brain with this time travel crap, Looper sets up a believable futuristic world where time-travel is possible without bogging down the audience with extraneous details.  However, for fans who want those details, the Looper Blu-ray has plenty of extras, including deleted scenes and expert testimonials from a physicist, that give extra bang for the buck.  Hit the jump for our review of Looper on Blu-ray.  More than a mere time-travel movie, Looper takes place in a future world where mobsters use outlawed technology to send marks into the past where an assassin (the Loopers) kills them and disposes of their bodies.  The story follows the collision course of Joe (Gordon-Levitt) and »

Nominated for Nothing: Why the Academy should go back in time to honor 'Looper'

23 January 2013 4:31 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Just about every year, brilliant movies are utterly ignored by the Oscars. The Searchers, Groundhog Day, Breathless, King Kong, Casino Royale, Touch of Evil, Caddyshack, Mean Streets, The Big Lebowski — the Academy has a long history of overlooking comedies, action movies, horror flicks, hard-boiled genre pics, artsy foreign films, and documentaries that aren’t about World War II. This year, we’ll be taking a closer look at films that were too small, too weird, or perhaps simply too awesome for the Academy Awards. These are the Non-Nominees.

The Film: Looper, writer-director Rian Johnson’s head-twisty sci-fi tale of Joe, »

Blu-ray Review: Looper

Looper

Stars: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Jeff Daniels, Paul Dano | Written and Directed by Rian Johnson

After the brilliant Brick and The Brothers Bloom (which I haven’t seen), Rian Johnson’s next is Looper, an action thriller about time travel. It stars Bruce Willis, and reunites Johnson with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, both playing the same character. In the last review I wrote, I complained that so many films these days seemed to be based on already existing material, but Looper is an original story, and its genuinely one of the most thrilling cinema experiences I have had recently.

In 2044, time travel hasn’t been invented, but in 30 years time it will have been, and is immediately made illegal. It is only used by mob bosses who want certain people gone, and so they hire assassins, called Loopers, from the past to kill and dispose of bodies that technically don’t exist. »
