Drawing the basics of your script from a novel that has already been adapted overseas to Oscar-winning effect can be a daunting challenge. But it’s one that Shattered Glass writer/director Billy Ray has taken on with Secret In Their Eyes, bringing Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts along with him. The first trailer has now arrived.Taken from Eduardo Sacheri’s novel La Pregunta De Sus Ojos, this new film is attempting to follow Juan José Campanella’s 2009 Argentinian effort The Secret In Their Eyes, which went home with the Best Foreign Language Film award at the 2010 Oscars. Along with knocking off that initial “The”, Ray tweaked the plot to add in more of a female presence in the lead when Roberts expressed her interest. The story follows similar lines, with Roberts and Ejiofor as FBI colleagues called to investigate a body found brutally murdered and left in a dumpster. »
The remake train continues to churn along in Hollywood and this time, the powers that be are taking on the 2009 Spanish thriller The Secret in Their Eyes which, upon its theatrical release in North America, made a big splash raking in a nice chunk of change and landing the movie on IMDb's top 250. All of this to say that the original is not some festival favourite few have seen.
The remake is being toted as more of a fresh take on Eduardo Sacheri's novel (which was also the basis for the first movie) about a team of FBI investigators whose lives are turned upside down they're called to a murder scene and discover the body of a teenage girl who happens to be the daughter of one of the investigators.
Writer/director Billy Ray is not prolific but his previous directing credi [Continued ...] »
Julia Roberts, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Nicole Kidman round out the heavy-hitting cast of Secret in Their Eyes, the upcoming remake of the 2009 Argentinian Oscar winner, El Secreto de Sus Ojos. The trailer for the film, in theaters on Oct. 23, has been released, and it's incredibly dark. Roberts plays an FBI investigator who discovers that her daughter has been brutally killed. Thirteen years after the murder, her colleague (Ejiofor) uncovers a lead that may point to the killer. The movie looks amazing (I can already see this cast touring award season together) but extremely difficult to watch. Until it's released, check out the trailer and Eduardo Sacheri's book, on which the movie is based. »
Loving the new look, Julia Roberts! The actress debuted a different 'do while on the set of her new film The Secret in Their Eyes, and although we're a fan of her brunette and banged tresses, it's also very possible that Roberts is rocking a wig for the movie (but at least now we know that if she did decide to switch it up, this is a good alternative to her already-lovely locks). Julia also got a sweet visit from her hubby Daniel Moder, who stopped by the set in Pasadena, Calif., to hang out with his ladylove while she took a break from shooting. Billy Ray's remake of the 2009 Academy Award winner for foreign-language (directed by Juan Jose Campanella) is based on the Eduardo Sacheri novel »
There's a chance you might remember an Argentine and Spanish animated foosball film from back in 2013 that was called Futbolin or Metegol. Well, that film got picked up by The Weinstein Company, and they're releasing a dubbed version of the movie featuring an American cast and the new title of Underdogs. Matthew Morrison ("Glee"), singer Ariana Grande, Nicolas Hoult (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Bell Thorne (Blended), Katie Holmes (Batman Begins) and John Leguizamo all lend their voice to the film about two childhood foosball rivals who battle as one finds their home threatened by the other. Watch! Here's the Us trailer for the animated film Underdogs from The Weinstein Company: Underdogs is directed by Juan Jose Campanella (The Secret in Their Eyes) and based on a short story called Memoirs of a Right Winger by Argentine writer Roberto Fontanarrosa.
